To My Husband on Valentine’s Day: I Love You Now More Than Ever

Hey there, husband. It’s Valentine’s Day, and I just want to say that our love has changed now we have kids.

It’s not better or worse, just different.

And through all the sleepless nights and stupid fights, I just want to say that you are, and always will be, my one and only Valentine. And that I love you now more than ever.

Here’s why.

You’re more

You’re more than just my lover now. You are my husband, my confidante, and my partner in this crazy whirlwind journey of parenting. I get to see so much more of who you really are now that you’re a dad. There’s a whole soft, cuddly, super proud, protective dad thing going on, and I love you for it.

Shitty days

We have shitty days. Busy days. Crazy days. And days full of literally cleaning up shit. You’ve seen me at my best, and at my worst. But you love me anyway. Today, Valentine’s Day, and every day. And for that, I love you more than ever.

Bed hair, don’t care

The days of tight, toned bods might be a faint memory, but I love that you see me with bed hair, furry legs, in some random stained old t-shirt and yoga pants outfit and STILL think I’m the sexiest thing you’ve ever seen. So neither of us look quite like we used to, but I’ll take your Dad bod any day, as long as it’s here beside me.

You still rock my world (occasionally!)

As in, on those rare sparkly unicorn occasions when the kids are all asleep in their OWN beds, neither of us are tired or sick or cranky, and we’re both awake. On those occasions, it’s awesome. You know me like no one else, and baby, to quote your fav song, on those nights, “you shook me all night long”.

You’ve got my back

And I’ve got yours. For the carting of all the stuff, an occasional massage and rubbing on sun screen. But also for all the stuff life throws at us, big and little. I know you’re always there, and you’re always in my corner.

So babe, we might have changed since we had the kids, but I wouldn’t change a thing. I love you now more than ever.

Happy Valentine’s Day hubbie!

I love my three country kids - and all things writing! Like most mums, I wear lots of hats - writer, children's author, organisational psychologist and the pairer of the odd socks!
