An amateur video of a truck running over a small boy at a car wash is going viral. And for a VERY good reason.
Miraculously the five-year-old wasn’t hurt. However, it just goes to show how easily every parent’s worst nightmare can happen in a matter of seconds.
The pick-up truck was also pulling a trailer. And the driver didn’t even know he had run over a child! The terrifying carpark incident is a stark reminder for all parents to watch their kids at ALL times.
Caught on camera
It’s amazing what security camera footage picks up. This video is from the Trolley Line Car Wash in Lancaster Country, Pennsylvania (America), and it’s unbelievable. In the clip we see a small boy in a blue coat next to stationery car. Suddenly he darts across the screen, right in front of a heavy pick-up truck pulling a trailer.
Sadly, the boy falls underneath the truck. And then the pick-up continues moving with the boy underneath, effectively running him over. It only stops once the boy’s frantic mother runs out to her boy.
Happened in seconds
The horrible incident happened in only a matter of seconds. According to the police, the truck driver had no idea the little boy had even crossed his path. Let alone gone under his vehicle. The mother’s cries to stop were the only reason why he stopped at all. And he was only going slow.
Presumably the boy had run across to reach his mother. And because he was only five and darted out so quickly, he was too small and fast for the truck driver to see. Amazingly, he was pretty much unharmed. What a relief!
A warning for others
It was the owner of the car wash who posted the video to Facebook last week. Already it’s had over 15,000 views and counting. He wants to warn other parents about what can happen, and to be extra careful when it comes to your children being around vehicles.
“The good lord was watching over this child today! We are so thankful that this little fellow is ok and only has a few scrapes!! It wasn’t anyone’s fault at all just a unfortunate event that could have been much worse,” he wrote in his post.
“Kids just don’t have the ability to sense the danger in there surroundings.”
Be extra careful, always
That’s the problem. Children are not as alert or aware as adults. And even when you think you’re watching your kids, unimaginable things can happen faster than you can blink.
“Any parent that sees this will surely watch a little closer. I’m not saying the parents were in any fault. The driver of the truck was in no fault as well. Just makes me wanna watch mine a little closer. Things happen fast even when vehicles are moving slow,” the owner added in his post.
