VIDEO: Dad Shows How to Shut Down a Toddler Tantrum and it’s Brilliant

Who’s the boss? We’re the boss!

This is the message Terrel Rico Relz Crawford wants us parents to remember next time your toddler goes to tantrum town. Because, let’s face it, when you’re wrangling wee ones all day long, sometimes it can be easy to forget.

Terrel and his daughter, Ari recently starred in a video that has won the internet over. Why? Because Terrel’s no BS approach to parenting (and not spoiling our kids) is next level.

The video starts out innocently enough. Terrel and Ari sit on the bonnet of their car in the Walmart car park. As Terrel explains, they had to exit the store after the little girl decided to throw a shit fit in the middle of the shop.

Come on, we’ve all been there…

Tough love beats tantrums

Terrel then goes on to explain that this is what happens when we spoil our kids – they turn into whinging, crying, tantrum throwing turds that want everything handed to them.

So how do we handle it?

We take back control, take away toys, take away privileges. We sit them on the bonnet of our cars in boring parking lots and let them see that they won’t get away with being naughty.

“I ain’t about to argue with no three year old kid, no two year old kid, no damn kid. I’m the daddy. I’m grown.”

Of course, this is easier said than done, especially when your toddler is mid-tantrum. But the message is still pretty awesome. We’re the bosses, mums and dads. And, sometimes our kids need to be reminded of this.

Terrel’s tough love tantrum fix seems to work a treat. Little Ari calms down, agrees to obey her dad, wipes the tears from her face and prepares for round two at Walmart.

The bottom line?

“I don’t care if you grew up with a silver spoon in your mouth. Don’t put one in your child’s mouth.”

Amen.
