Best Baby Bottles and How to Choose the Right One for Your Baby

Breastmilk, formula, a bit of both? Regardless of how you plan to feed, you will be in need of some bottles! We’ve searched far and wide to put together our best baby bottles for 2022.

Featuring some of the most trusted brands in Australia including RochiLou, b.box, Cherub Baby, Tommee Tippee and more, we’ve got the goods on glass, silicone, stainless steel, anti-colic teats, plus our top tips for buying baby bottles.

Even if you are exclusively breastfeeding, it doesn’t hurt to have a bottle or two on hand, just in case. Every mumma needs a break from the constant demands of feeding and it’s great to be able to offer bub a bottle from time to time.

Buying Baby Bottles? Our Top Tips:

Try one, then buy more

Always buy just one bottle of a particular brand or type before committing to kitting out your bottle collection. The last thing you want is a dozen bottles of one type and your baby decides to refuse them.

How many bottles?

If you’re exclusively bottle feeding, around 8 to 10 bottles in the rotation is a good number. If you’re mostly breastfeeding, 3 to 4 is a great number to have on hand.

Flow matters

Pay attention to the flow number on the teat. The smaller the number, the smaller the flow! There are also different teat materials – silicone is firm and durable while latex is softer but doesn’t last as long. There are also anti-colic teats that may reduce gas and spit-up—which, in turn, can help eliminate fussiness.

What material?

Baby bottles come in a number of different materials:

  • BPA-free plastic bottles are lightweight and mean the BPA won’t leech into the contents through microwaving etcbut may need to be replaced more often.
  • Glass is durable and heavier while food-grade silicone bottles are lightweight, flexible, and made without BPA.
  • Stainless steel baby bottles are also durable and come without toxins but tend to be more expensive.
  • PPSU is a new material for the production of baby bottles and comes with the durability of glass but without breakability.

Our top picks for best baby bottles 2022

b.box PPSU Baby Bottles

Price: $19.95 (for 240ml)
Where to buy: b.box

If you’re after a PPSU bottle, then our top pick is the b.box range. Their PPSU bottles come in a 240ml and 180ml option and are made from long-lasting, medical-grade PPSU (polyphenylsulfone). They can be washed by hand and sterilised, are dishwasher-safe, and are ideal for frequent use. PPSU is ideal for bottles because it’s break-resistant and won’t ever go cloudy as some other plastic bottles might.

b.box PPSU baby bottles also feature anti-colic silicone teats designed to assist natural feeding and encourage easy attachment. They’ve also got a ribbed ring for easy grip when twisting on and off and a ledge on the cap to support easy click-off removal.

Another great thing about the b.box PPSU baby bottles is that they feature a unique oval shape to prevent them from rolling (especially under the couch!), Nothing worse than discovering a half-empty bottle of milk five days later.

There are three teat sizes available and non-slip handles are also available to support self-feeding and encourage independence as baby grows. You can add on handles for self-led drinking down the road too.
