Clever Parents are Making Over These $199 Kmart Cubby Houses and We Love Them

If you have $199, a bit of free time, a few tins of paint, perhaps some spare timber and a hint of DIY talent, then have we got the weekend project for you!

Step one: Go to Kmart. Step two. Buy the $199 Kmart kids’ cubby house (you may have to fight a few mums for it, but, hey, that’s pretty standard when at Kmart). Step three: Hack the hell out of it.

You buy the cubby house (and beat the crowds). And we’ll handle the hacks. Welcome, DIY mums, to your child’s cubby house dreams.

Well, that’s what I’m doing at least. #stuffthekids #mummywantsacubbyhousedammit

But you could also release your inner white picket fence, with this pretty in pink version.  Or how about adding an awning for even more outdoor entertaining space?

The White House

Okay, so this angelic adobe is pretty much the presidential suite of cubby houses. Designed with love by mum Alicia, for her two tots, Hudson and Harlow, we are especially loving the added green and gold elements.

To achieve the look Alicia spray painted the entire cubby white. She picked up the flooring from Ikea and also spray painted the kiddies’ outdoor furniture to match.
