A little boy who disappeared over 10 years ago was never been reported missing. Crime Stoppers appeals for information.
Baden Bond, was last seen at his home at Woodridge, south of Brisbane, on March 27 in 2007. He was 22-months-old at the time but would be 12 if still alive. Despite being unaccounted for now for over 10 years the child was never reported missing and a cloud of doubt surrounds what happened to him.
Detectives investigating the (now declared) murder of the toddler who vanished over a decade ago say he cannot be found despite his family giving police a “number of versions” of where he is.
Police today confirmed he was was in the care of his parents at the time of his disappearance and there no records of him attending any school or medical appointment since 2007.
In January last year, a magistrate hearing a separate case involving the family asked of the whereabouts of the boy. The parents, who have a large number of children, told the magistrate he had gone to live with relatives in another part of the state. The family are also believed to have moved interstate on more than one occasion.
Repeated police attempts to verify the parents’ story failed to find any trace of the boy.
After failing to establish the child’s whereabouts, Queensland police last year began digging up the backyard of his former residential home looking for remains of the boy. Bones found at the property are still being forensically examined and police say it will take a few months to determine if they are indeed human.
“We are treating this as a homicide,” Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Damien Hansen said. “I ask any person who has any knowledge of what occurred to Baden or any knowledge of Baden’s demise to contact Crime Stoppers. We have searched every possible location for Baden. They have given us those versions, that he is with relatives, that he is with different people, but certainly all our investigations have proven negative. Baden would be 12 by now and this is certainly a case we believe can be solved.”
Baden’s parents, a 43-year-old Woodridge woman and a 49-year-old man from Toormina, in NSW, have each been charged with murder and will appear in court tomorrow.
Police are still appealing to the public for information about the location of Baden Bond please contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000.
