GOT SKINCARE QUESTIONS?

Take a look at our most commonly asked questions surrounding skincare and the best skincare routines for adults, teens and tweens.

1. When should I start a skincare routine?

Generally, a basic skincare routine can begin around the age of 11. Around ages 12-14, hormonal changes can cause skin to become oilier or more prone to breakouts, making it a good time to introduce a gentle routine. For younger tweens, it’s good to focus on keeping the skin clean and moisturised, without adding too many products. Of course, it’s never too late to start a skincare routine and many women don’t actually start using products regularly until their 40s.

2. Is skincare safe for my tween or teen?

Yes it is but we recommend always using skincare products designed especially for teen’s younger skin: gentle, non-comedogenic products (products that don’t clog pores) that are designed for younger skin.

3. What should you look for when buying the best skincare products?

Price matters, of course, but you should also consider the ingredients, SPF protection (if any) and non-irritating options. We suggest you avoid skincare products with added fragrances, as they can irritate skin. Moisturisers with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or aloe vera, are great to help hydrate and balance skin.

4. What does a basic skincare routine look like?

There are four steps to a daily skincare routine but everyone is different.  This should be done once in the morning and once at night (minus the sunscreen at night).

        1. Cleansing: A gentle face wash to remove dirt, oil, and makeup (morning and night).
        2. Toning: A toner can help balance the skin’s pH, but it’s not necessary for everyone. If you choose one, look for alcohol-free formulas.
        3. Moisturising: A lightweight, non-greasy moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated.
        4. Sunscreen: A broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, applied every morning, even if you’re staying indoors.

5. How do I know if a skincare product is working?

Some products will show results instantly, such as eye lift balms and lip plumpers. Baby products tend to show results anywhere from a day to a week, while other skincare products take longer. Generally, you should give a new product at least 4-6 weeks to see noticeable changes.
