Hold on to your Mickey Mouse ears, ladies and gents. Disneyland COULD be making Australia home. For Disney-loving families in Australia, this is HUGE news as it means we don’t have to book a trek overseas just to visit the happiest place on earth.
So where is the mysterious Disneyland resort planning on laying its roots?Â
Disney Down Under potential location revealed
According to sources, Down Under Disney is heading to Melbourne, or just outside. The exact location is near Avalon Airport, South-West of Melbourne and close to Geelong. The huge block of vacant land is about 30 minutes from the Melbourne CBD.
It’s been confirmed that an “entertainment precinct” is earmarked for the area but it hasn’t been confirmed that it’s definitely a Disneyland. But the big guns are behind the idea!
Lord Mayor Sally Capp said she’d loved to see Disney Down Under.Â
“As Australia’s capital city of fun, of course we should have a Disney theme park in Melbourne,” she said. “I know a Disney theme park in our municipality would be a huge hit with residents – myself included – visitors, students and traders.”Â
David Fox, chairman of Avalon Airport and son of billionaire trucking magnate Lindsey Fox, has reportedly previously held meetings with Disney.
“There’s an entertainment precinct that we’ve defined. I wouldn’t say (for a) Disneyland at this moment in time, but anything is possible,” Mr Fox said. Â
Let’s make Disneyland in Australia happen!
This isn’t the first attempt to bring Disney Down Under. Other cities have attempted to secure a Disneyland in the past including Sydney, Adelaide and the Gold Coast. Fourth time lucky? We certainly hope so!Â
People have been BEGGING for Disneyland for years now and in 2020, a petition to bring Disney Down Under started. It’s now gained tens of thousands of signatures. It makes sense for Disneyland to expand into Australia too, as Aussie families flock to overseas destinations every year.Â
If Melburn gets a Disneyland, it will be the 7th Disney Resort in the world.
Disney theme parks are currently located in:
- California, USA – Disneyland ResortÂ
- Florida, USA – Walt Disney World Resort
- Tokyo, Japan – Tokyo Disney ResortÂ
- Paris, France – Disneyland ParisÂ
- Hong Kong, China – Hong Kong Disneyland ResortÂ
- Shanghai, China – Shanghai Disney ResortÂ
It’s been a pretty hectic year for Disney in Australia with the launch of Disney Cruises and Disney on Ice Celebrating 100 years of wonder.

Monopoly Theme Park also making Melbourne home
If you love theme parks, then another fun bit of news is that Melbourne is getting a Monopoly Theme Park – and very soon too!Â
Known as Monopoly Dreams, the theme park is based on the attraction of the same name in Hong Kong. However, the Aussie version will be even bigger and better!
The 1650 square meter Monopoly theme park will be parked in Melbourne Central and will include 15 attractions across two zones – Monopoly City and Monopoly Mansion, where Mr. Monopoly lives.
Families can expect to pay around $30-40 per ticket and the Monopoly theme park is expected to welcome 600,000 people yearly. The indoor venue is expected to cost around $20 million.
According to Forte Mag, the upcoming amusement park will open September 1st, 2023! We shall see!Â
