Love the sound of a Kamikaze ride and a dagwood dog lunch? The family event of the year, the Royal Adelaide Show is rolling into town and you don’t want to miss it!
We’re talking two whole weekends worth of awesome entertainment, fun rides, animals and, yes, the hottest showbags around!
The Royal Adelaide Show is the one event of the year that the kids can’t wait to lock into the calendar. And they’re not the only ones. Half a million people pour through the showground gates every year to take in the sights, the sounds and all that the show has to offer.
And boy, there’s a LOT to do at the Royal Adelaide Show!
WIN 1 OF 5 FAMILY PASSES TO THE SHOWÂ
Thanks to our friends at the Royal Adelaide Show, we’ve got 5 family passes up for grabs (valued at $68.50 each) for the event, which hits town 30th August to 8th September 2019. That’s a HUGE saving! It means there’s more money in your pocket for rides or hot cinnamon doughnuts. Your call, I’ll take either.
ROYAL ADELAIDE SHOW FUN FACT #1: The Royal Adelaide Show is the LARGEST South Australian event! Last year there were more than 51,000 show-goers using the Showground Train Station and more than 24,000 attendees choosing to ride the bus!
Royal Adelaide Show for good ol’ fashioned fun
When my family hits up the Adelaide Show, the kids are all about the high-adrenaline stakes of the rides and sideshow alley. While my speed is more the lifestyle pavilion and a cup of Golden North ice cream but hey, it works. That’s part of the show magic – there’s a little something for everyone!
ROYAL ADELAIDE SHOW FUN FACT #2: We’re breaking WORLD RECORDS with the Royal Adelaide Show! The 244th show held this year surpasses the Royal Bath and West Show (England’s biggest celebration of rural life), which is in its 156th year. High fives to South Australia!
Rides, ALL THE RIDES!
You’ll be sorely mistaken if you think the rides are just for big kids (or big kids at heart!). Even the littlies can get in on some ride action at the show! There’s a Carousel, Tea Cups and a Mini Pirate Ship, just to name a few for the smaller set. While the thrill-chasers can board the Big Dipper or No Limit (a 42-metre tower of power simulating flying an F1-11). I advise you don’t eat before getting on that. #justsayin’
ROYAL ADELAIDE SHOW FUN FACT #3: Loop the loop! 2008 was the first year the Big Dipper Loop Coaster came to town. It replaced the very much loved, old standing favourite, the Mad Mouse. So much fun!
Showbags, ALL THE LOOT!
What’s a visit to the Royal Adelaide Show without being marched around the showbag hall? Long time show-goers will be thrilled to hear the Bertie Beetle Showbag is available once again (a steal from just $2!). Cadbury has lots to offer (Flake, Crunchie and Curly Wurly) for $5 a bag. While AFL enthusiasts can clean up a whole whack of team merch (Port Power! Adelaide Crows!) in the AFL Supporters showbags, $26.
Mums and Dads can also refill the secret pantry snack stash with Charlesworth’s Mammoth Showbag. Its $50 price tag is well worth the 31 varieties of scrumptious treats within. That’s just the tip of the showbag circuit, there’s everything from Paw Patrol to the Women’s Weekly hitting the stands!
ROYAL ADELAIDE SHOW FUN FACT #4: Speaking of delicious treats, did you know that there were 70,000 buckets of hot chips, 35,000 coffees, 12,000 doughnuts and 12,000 milkshakes being slurped, dunked and devoured at the show last year?! That’s QUITE the lunch!
Lots of FREE things to do to!
There’s SO MUCH free stuff to do at the Royal Adelaide Show, you’ll be mighty impressed. There’s the Bank SA Farmyard Nursery, Safari Zoo Craft Village, car soccer, fireworks, even Angry Birds are going to be there on the Goyder Stage!
Farm-loving kids should definitely pay a visit to the agricultural side of the showgrounds where they can get up close to all manner of sheep and dairy cows – just watch out for poo!
ROYAL ADELAIDE SHOW FUN FACT #5: Late night show-goers ADORE the fireworks display! There are a whopping 10,000 kilograms of pyrotechnics that make up 30,000 individual fireworks to light up the night sky. How awesome!
From all of us at Mum Central, we hope you have a blast at the show this year!
