Apple IOS is regarded as very easy to use. The great user interface and basic touch controls making it easy for beginners. Despite all this, there’s still a lot of functionality that’s simply not being tapped into by end users so here’s 15 popular iPhone hacks that will simplify your life and get even more use out of your device.
1. Quickly Snooze Your Alarm Clock
When the alarm goes off, the “Tap on Snooze” button needs to be tapped to snooze it. What most people don’t know is that they can simply press any hardware buttons such as the Volume buttons or the Power button.
2. Activate Do Not Disturb
If you’re wanting to silence your phone, without switching it off (or avoid the noisy vibration in your bag or pocket)
Go to Settings -> Do Not Disturb -> Manual
All calls and text messages will be silenced (and that includes the vibrate function!) with a small crescent moon appearing in the top toolbar to remind you. Simply switch it off to go back to normal use.
3. Delete Photos in Bulk
If you’re tired of deleting images individually, you haven’t been exploring much. The Photos app now lets you do this. After opening the app, simply navigate to the Photos tab and then click on the Moments screen. Photos here will be grouped by Date and Location and each group will have a Select button on the upper-right. As soon as you’ve selected all the groups you want to delete, just click the Trash button at the bottom-right and confirm your choice and the prompt that ensues.
4. Create a Reading List
Ever come across those articles that you want to read but lack the time? Apple makes it easier by having reading lists. How do you go about this? First, click the sharing icon when you’re on an article you want to save for later. Among the choices offered, choose “Add to reading list”. Doing so will add it to that list for future reading.
5. Erase Last Digit in Calendar
If you’re using the Calculator app and mistakenly tapped the wrong digit, one quick way to erase it is by swiping left to right. The last digit will be instantly deleted.
6. Block In-App Purchases
Ever received an invoice for an in-app purchase you don’t remember making, only to find out it was when your kids were playing on your device? They don’t know what they’re doing, they’re just pressing away to get through to their next screen, often inadvertently charging your registered payment method. If you want to protect yourself while still allowing your child to play, here’s what you need to do:
Go to Settings -> General -> Restrictions
1) Tap the Enable Restrictions button and key in a 4 digit code. This will be used to enable and disable it in the future.
2) After entering this code, a list of apps will be shown to you.
3) Tap on In-App purchases to disable it. It should originally be green and turn grey after tapping.
7. Block Annoying Contacts
There comes a time when we find certain people, who let’s just say won’t be making our Xmas List, that keep trying to contact us for whatever reason. Rest assured you can easily block them from either messaging, or even calling you.
How we hear you ask?
Go to Settings -> Phone -> Blocked ->Add New -> Select the Contact you wish to block.
You will then not receive phone calls, messages or FaceTime with the people on your block list.
To remove someone on your block list:
Go to Settings -> Phone -> Blocked -> Edit (top right) and hit the red circle next to the name of the person you want to remove and choose Unblock.
8. Speed Your iPhone's Charging Rate
If you’re in a hurry and you need to charge your phone SUPER FAST, here’s the golden ticket! While your phone is typically charging, background apps and radio signals remain operational. Ideally, the best way to charge a phone would be to turn it off. However, you can achieve a faster charging rate by simply switching the phone to AIRPLANE MODE. In this mode, all communication is ceased which saves a bit of juice and speeds up charging in the long run. It’s amazing how quickly your battery juices up and you can avoid being caught with a dead battery!
