If your family or work fridge contains almond milk, we urge you to go check if it’s this popular brand. An urgent almond milk recall has been issued for the popular Inside Out Unsweetened Almond Milk after it was linked to a case of a severe paralysis illness.

Almond Milk recall issued for Inside Out brand!

Residents of NSW who shop at Woolworths have been warned that the Inside Out Unsweetened Almond Milk (Collagen+Calcium+Prebiotics) 1L has been pulled from supermarket shelves this week.

Food Standards Australia and New Zealand issued the recall after a person in NSW was hospitalised with “severe symptoms” of botulism.

Always cautious, Food Standards Australia and New Zealand pulled the popular milk from Woolworths store shelves this week due to the risk of biotoxin contamination (Botulinum toxin). So if you haven’t been able to add it to your trolley this week, this is why.

What is Botulism?

Botulism is a rare but potentially life-threatening illness caused by the toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The toxin can cause muscle paralysis, which can affect breathing and other bodily functions. Botulism can occur through ingesting food that has been contaminated with the bacteria or the toxin, or through a wound infected with the bacteria.

Symptoms of botulism include weakness, dizziness, blurred vision, dry mouth, and difficulty speaking or swallowing. It is important to seek medical attention immediately if botulism is suspected, as it can be treated with antitoxin, but if left untreated, it can be fatal.

“The NSW Food Authority is investigating the manufacturing of the product to determine the possible cause of the contamination,” a statement from NSW Health said.
