Canopy Park: Jewel Changi Airport’s Must-Do Attraction when in Singapore

The Jewel Changi Airport has already been crowned the ‘World’s Best Airport’ thanks to its giant slides, swimming pools, sunflower gardens and movie theatre. But it 2019, Changi took it up a level with the grand opening of the family-friendly Canopy Park.

Canopy Park transforms the airport from a place of arrivals and departures to an experience like no other with beautiful gardens, sky nets, Discovery Slides, mazes, a Canopy Bridge and an interactive museum.

“I can’t believe we’re in an airport!”

When you think of an airport you probably think of uncomfortable bench seats, overpriced bars, and boutique perfume shops. You’re not there for a good time (or a long time) and you probably cannot wait to find the nearest exit or make your way onto the plane for your next flight.

Not at the Jewel Changi Airport in Singapore. Oh no. Arriving (or departing from) the Jewel is an airport experience unlike any I’ve ever had! It’s calming, relaxing, entertaining and fun for the entire family!

If you’re travelling overseas and need a stopover, I would highly recommend going through Singapore simply to stop and check out the Jewel Changi Airport. You won’t be disappointed! In fact, it will feel like your holiday has already begun before you even arrive at your final destination.

Things to See and Do at Jewel

I was recently invited to share my experience at the Jewel Changi Airport and check out the new attractions. And to say I was impressed is a massive understatement!

A Walk in Canopy Park

The first port-of-call on my trip was Canopy Park, the brand new play attractions and creative gardens. This indoor space is teaming with nature and is quite the sight to see!

Walking through the picturesque gardens, you won’t even feel like you’re in an airport. You’ll feel like you’re wandering through a forest. It’s incredible, really – almost surreal.

Canopy Park has a stunning petal garden, a topiary walk, massive waterfall (the world’ tallest indoor waterfall), four huge Discovery slides for kids (and adults) of all ages to whizz down and a lookout taking in the spectacular view of the Shiseido Forest Valley.

There’s also shuttle trains that take you between Changi Airport’s four terminals, and a great way to either take a sneak peek or a quick hop off to wander through Jewel while in transit or before you depart on your flight.

We also loved the Foggy Bowls, four play areas focused on science and natural phenomena. The kids darted in out of them, laughing as they ran. Burn their energy AND teach them some new cool facts about science. #winning.

And the architecture, just beautiful! If you do have a stopover, you can wander into Canopy Park, stretch the legs, let the kids burn off some energy and be emotionally and physically refreshed for the next flight.

Mirrors, mazes and more

All the above attractions are completely free for all travellers but there are also ticketed attractions including the Hedge Maze and the Mirror Maze, both of which are fantastic for families. The Hedge Maze is the largest indoor maze in Singapore and is an absolute blast to weave your way through.

The Mirror Maze is a world’s first and designed to both challenge and excite maze-goers.

Sky Nets

Another fun way to pass the time is to check out the Sky Nets. There’s one you can walk along and one that you can bounce on. I opted for the more energetic ‘bounce’ sky net.

But wait, there’s more!

So much more in fact! Like the also-newly-opened Jewel Changi Airport Experience Studio on Level 4 which is a digital experience of interactive games, gallery exhibits, and immersive shows.

There are heaps of other things for travellers to check out too – a movie theatre, a massive indoor playground, a pool, even a butterfly garden.

There’s even a free guided tour of the top hot spots in Singapore that takes you outside of the airport. You will need at least 6 hours in between flights to do it and there are two tours to choose from – a Heritage Tour and a City Sights Tour. It gets you right into the heart of Singapore where you can see some sights, enjoy the city in air conditioned comfort and even get off for a spot of shopping! It’s totally free and a great way to break up what could be a long transit layover.

I visited Singapore as a guest of Changi Airport. All opinions are my own.
