Michigan couple Kateri and Jay Schwandts have added another baby to their massive brood.

And, guess, what! It’s a boy! Again!

Welcome to the world, Finley Sheboygan Schwandts.

Sheboygan???

Yes. This is young Finley’s middle name. Because life is too short to NOT choose a crazy middle name for your 14th son.

Have ALL the boys

Finley Sheboygan arrived five days early on 18 April, 2018, weighing about 3.7 kilograms and 53 centimetres. He joins his 13 older brothers,Tyler, 25,  Zach, 22, Drew, 20, Brandon, 18, Tommy, 16, Vinny, 15, Calvin, 13, Gabe, 11, Wesley, 9, Charlie, 8, Luke, 6, Tucker, 4 and Francisco, 2.

And now baby Finley. Finley Sheboygan.

Sheboy what?

I know what you’re thinking. What in the actual is going on with this kid’s middle name? Is this a weird joke? Nope, it’s real. And it actually comes with a pretty interesting back story.

You see, the name Sheboygan comes from a Native American tale in which a chief was also the father of many boys. He was certain his last child would be a girl, but, nope, she turned out to be a he. And thus, according to the tale, the chief named the baby Sheboygan, because “she is a boy again”.

Jay and Kateri opted for the middle name for their 14th son after Kateri’s father told her the story eight years ago, before he passed away.

The couple confess they tossed around the idea of using the name, Sheboygan, for several of their other sons. But they were never quite sure when their baby-making factory would officially close. Although they never say never, the couple are “pretty sure” Finley Sheboygan will be their last bubba.

Jay admits that his interesting middle name is sure to turn heads. But, they figured “What the heck? People think we are crazy anyway”.

Beating the odds with 14th boy

The odds of having 14 boys in a row is pretty flippin’ low (one in 16,384 to be exact). This is around the same odds as winning a Division 3 Powerball Lotto. So, technically, the Schwandts should consider themselves VERY lucky!

And they do.

“We are extremely blessed,” Jay tells Today. “He is so happy and healthy.”

“For us, it is about the baby, about the miracle of life,” Kateri adds. “It’s not about having a girl.”

“This is just what we do. We are equipped to handle it. I can’t imagine not having 14 boys. We enjoy every minute of it.”

Congratulations to Jay and Kateri on the safe arrival of their 14th bub. Looking for more interesting baby name options? Check out the name this breakfast-loving father chose for his daughter.
