If you haven’t heard of Exploding Kittens before, then allow us to introduce you to this incredible company.

Exploding Kittens started eight years ago with the first game – also called Exploding Kittens – and since then, has erupted into a megadome of hilarious gaming and puzzling fun.

They’ve got some incredible games under their wings – some of which you will get to review – all designed to inspire people to connect, laugh, and play fun games together. Their goal is to bring back the family games night but with a fresh twist that not only entertains but also makes the people you’re playing with more entertaining.

We adore the classic board games but the Exploding Kittens games go above and beyond the basics and this is why they are such a hit around the world.

Their games are quick-to-learn, easy-to-play and ideal for kids 7+ including tweens and teens. They are also great for adult games nights and bring a whole new element of gaming fun to the table.

Let’s meet five of the games in the mix for our family games night! 

GAME 1:  Exploding Kittens

It’s the game that started it all. Exploding Kittens is a kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette and UNO combined but with goats, magical enchiladas and kittens that can kill you.

Players take turns drawing cards until someone draws an exploding kitten and loses the game. The deck is made up of cards that let you avoid exploding by peeking at cards before you draw, forcing your opponent to draw multiple cards or shuffling the deck.

The stakes get higher with every card you play. The fewer cards, the more chance you’ll draw a kitten and explode. #BOOM! It’s a great game for the whole family and delivers a deck full of cheeky fun.

GAME 2: Throw Throw Burrito 

Throw Throw Burrito lets you chuck burritos at your kids and friends. No jokes. It’s pretty much the best stress-relieving game in the history of the world and is absolutely hilarious too.

The game is both a card game and a game of dodgeball – the first of its kind. Try to collect matching sets of cards faster than your opponents while simultaneously ducking, dodging, and throwing squishy airborne burritos. The cards you collect earn points, but getting hit by flying burritos loses them. So clear some space and put away the antiques, because you’ve never played a card game quite like this before.

GAME 3: Poetry for Neanderthals 

For the word nerds out there, this one has your name written all over it! It’s similar to the game Taboo, where players earn points by helping their teammates guess words and phrases.

However, there are a few catches. Neanderthal Poets can only use one-syllable words.  If you don’t, you get hit with a stick. A 2-foot inflatable club, to be exact. Wholesome, hilarious fun!

GAME 4: Happy Salmon

90 seconds is all it takes to play Happy Salmon but trust us, you’ll want to keep playing over and over again. The goal is to get everyone moving and laughing in under two minutes.

Each player gets a stack of cards. Every card has a simple action that requires a partner. Players frantically shout their actions looking for matching players. When they find a match, they both complete the action and discard their used cards. The first player to finish all of their cards wins!

GAME 5: Mantis

Mantis is a colourfully cutthroat card game of rainbows and revenge. It combines the simplicity of Uno with the depth of Gin Rummy and is a great game for the competitive gamers out there.

There are only two rules: Steal or Score. You collect matching sets of cards by stealing from your opponents. You feel good about things, then not so good about things as opponents steal your cards back. Repeat this emotional rollercoaster until somebody wins the game.

More about Family Games Night:

If successful, our family games night hosts will be sent comprehensive instructions on what we need from them. In summary, though, we’ll need you to:

1. PLAY! Set up a games night with your tribe and bring on the fun! Invite your mates to join if you’d like or get the kids involved. Grab some snacks and drinks and make a night out of it. It’s important that you play all three games in your set so that you can accurately review each game.
2. SNAP SOME PICS: Take great photos of the games bundle when it arrives, in and out of the box, how the games look when they are set up and of course, during your Family Games Night. Take pics of the product as well as everyone playing and capture the essence of your night.
3. SHARE ON YOUR SOCIALS: Upload your fave pic(s) or video to your strongest social platform (IG, FB or TikTok) using the hashtags: #explodingkittens #familygamesnight and tag Mum Central. Make sure you set it to public as we will need to see this as part of your competition entry.
4. COMPLETE OUR ONLINE SURVEY: After playing all three games, we’d like you to complete our online survey, share your thoughts on each of the games, add the links to your social media posts and then rate your experience.
