It’s time to start saving money at the supermarket by cooking your own baby food. Yep, YOU CAN TOTALLY DO IT (you really can)! Follow on below as we show you why we are loving hard on the Kilner Kids Jars as they’re the perfect glass storage partner for the job!

If your baby is between the age of 4 and 6 months old, you’re likely to have started introducing solid foods into their diet and loading up on pouches of prepared baby food at the supermarket. BUT did you know in your baby’s eyes, you’re a money-saving Masterchef in the making?

Home cooking – better for your budget, better for baby!

Home cooking for your baby is easier than you think! It’s MUCH more cost-effective than buying ready-made food at the supermarket, PLUS you know EXACTLY what’s going in your baby’s belly.

You also don’t need fancy equipment to cook for your baby. A saucepan, a potato masher, a sieve to push food through to make a puree (or a stick blender) and fridge and freezer storage is all you require.

Home prepared food is super fresh (not sitting on a shelf for months) free of additives and preservatives, and let’s not forget it’s made with a whole lot of mama LOVE!

  1. Boil 200g of sliced carrots until tender.
  2. Add 40g of peas and boil for an extra couple of minutes.
  3. Drain, reserve liquid. Blend together.
  4. Add cooking liquid to loosen it up if too thick.

2. BERRY AND BANANA

  1. Boil 4 tablespoons of water in a pan.
  2. Add a diced banana, a dozen berries, 1 tablespoon of baby rice cereal to the pan.
  3. Simmer gently for 5 minutes.
  4. Blend until smooth. (Add boiled water if too thick)

3. SWEET POTATO AND CINNAMON

  1. Peel and cut a 200g sweet potato into chunks.
  2. Cover with cold water in a pan and bring to a boil.
  3. Drain and add a pinch of cinnamon to the potato.
  4. Mash with a fork or potato masher. Done!

Kilner Kids Jars – the perfect baby food storage solution

And speaking of love, when it comes to storing your freshly made baby food, look no further than these sweet and mighty practical Kilner Kids Jars. They truly are the best in the biz, and it’s not hard to see why. Made from the thick, quality glass Kilner brand is renown for, these jars can go from the countertop to the fridge, freezer and the microwave. So versatile and such quality.

What sets these baby food jars apart from the rest? Quality aside, it HAS to be the soft silicone lids. They’re leak-proof and push on and off with ease which is nothing short of brilliant if you only have one hand to spare when wrangling a wriggly babe on a hip. Happy days!

What do I really think of Kilner Kids Glass Jars?

Hands down, without a word of a lie, I LOVE them.

Firstly,  I’m flabbergasted by the super silicone lid. The fact that it pushes on and off so easily and is even leakproof is some sort of epic wizardry. Knowing that the jar seal is liquid-tight is very reassuring.

Secondly, the versatility and convenience of Kilner Kids Jars win me over. I can literally, empty my saucepan into the jar and take it to the fridge, the freezer, defrost it and microwave it – ALL IN THE SAME JAR.

Also, if there’s a messy post-dinner clean up, I can leave the washing of Kilner Kids Jars and lids to the dishwasher because they’re dishwasher safe too!  #winning
