Imagine celebrating the recent engagement of your good friends at a local pub with some laughs and beers. As you’re settling in for a good arvo, in waltzes none other than Taylor Swift, ready to join in on the celebrations.
This is exactly what happened to guests at a recent engagement day set at a local pub in California where newly engaged couple, Alex Goldschmidt and Ross Girard hosted a party for their closest family and friends. Alex and Ross got engaged earlier in the day in front of 65 of their friends. But this wasn’t the only surprise of the day!
‘Give a warm welcome to my friend Taylor’
As Alex and Ross stand up to give a little speech, Alex explains how he trusts (most) of his mates with the secrets he shares with them. But there was one secret he couldn’t tell anyone. Spoiler alert – the secret is Taylor Swift!
There’s a person who isn’t here but who sort of played a part in all of this, so I would like to welcome and for you to give a warm welcome to, my friend Taylor,” Alex says as he introduces his surprise guest.
As you can imagine, when Taylor walks in, people are visually stunned, shocked, and absolutely blown away. In true Taylor form, she then gives a touching little speech, explaining that her song “King of My Heart” had a special significance for the couple.
She then breaks out in “King of My Heart” with no warm-up, no backup singers, no mic, just pure, perfectly organic and beautiful – a true testament to Tay’s raw talent as a performer.

The performance has been viewed 2.7 million times and got a huge reaction from fans online, with comments like “I would have fainted there and then.” Check out the video below – it’s really sweet!
How did Alex get Taylor to come?
Were they besties in high school? Are they actually cousins?
According to the New York Times, Alex and Taylor met backstage five years before at an Ed Sheeran concert. The two stayed in touch via social media and met up a few more times. Alex is actually one of the dancers in Tay’s “Shake it Off” video.
Alex introduced Taylor to Ross in 2018. Before the surprise engagement, which Alex had been planning for months, he sent Taylor an email thanking Taylor for all the years of advice and letting her know he’d found his “king”.
Two weeks later, Taylor’s publicist, Tree Paine called to say Taylor wanted to be part of the engagement day. Alex admits when he got the call that Taylor would be turning up at the pub, he had to pull over and remind himself to breathe.
Basically, I lost feeling in my face and I had to pull my car over,” he said. “I cried a little bit, I screamed a little bit, then I tried to restore the feeling to my face.”
It isn’t the first time Ms. Swift has surprised a couple and our guess is it won’t be the last!
In June 2016, she crashed the wedding of Max Singer and Kenya Smith, and about 100 guests in Long Beach Island, N.J., before sitting down at a piano and performing her hit song “Blank Space.”

Is Tay Tay coming to a pub near you?
We all know by now that Taylor Swift will be rocking the MCG and Accor Stadium in February 2024. Her concerts are set for Friday 16th and Saturday 17th of February 2024 and Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th of February 2024, which means she’ll have plenty of downtime during the week to explore a bit of Australia and potentially visit a few pubs along the way.
