This role offers the flexibility to work from your home office during school hours, 5 hours per day, Monday to Friday (25 hours per week).
At Mum Central, our close-knit team connects online weekly and keeps in touch daily. While you’ll enjoy the comfort of working from home, you won’t be isolated. Expect plenty of good humour (we think we’re fun!), a driven work atmosphere, and lively ‘watercooler’ conversations.
This role will oversee the daily content on our website, including all commercial material. This position is crucial to our site’s vibrancy, so we’d love a strategic mindset – someone ready to take the reigns and fully excel in this role.
Your Role and Responsibilities:
- Engaging Storytelling: Your primary task is to create content that resonates deeply with our audience, combining professional insight with a family-friendly tone.
- Team Leadership: Lead a group of talented writers, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment that upholds our quality and creativity standards.
- Content Creation: Develop diverse content, from insightful articles to engaging social media posts, all aligned with Mum Central’s unique brand voice.
- Innovative and Family-Focused: Bring fresh, family-oriented ideas to the table, helping us stay ahead in the digital parenting space.
What We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking a writing and editing superstar. Our dream candidate brings a commercially driven approach that merges our content objectives, audience demands and client (advertiser) requirements.
- Exceptional communicator – In a remote role, communication is key – with your writers, the entire team, clients, and agencies.
- You will be a super-fast writer, well-versed in standard editorial operations and have a sophisticated understanding of the digital publishing ecosystem and native content.
- Your attention to detail is second to none – and in fact, you love tightening copy, creating beautiful flow and taking superior pride in your work.
- You’re social media savvy and know how to get your content seen as widely as possible. You’ll know what’s trending and be committed to truly understanding the Mum Central woman and what will (and won’t resonate!) with her.
- You understand SEO. Wearing both commercial and creative hats, you will develop content that meets the briefing for social channels and organic search.
- You’re obsessed with the numbers, achieving the traffic and hitting targets daily, weekly and monthly.
- You’ve worked in the industry before and you are experienced in WordPress, Canva and Adobe.
Day-to-day you will…
- Source, write and commission timely, accurate, optimised and inspiring lifestyle content in an intelligent, confident and aspirational tone of voice that meets our brand’s guidelines.
- Commission, edit, proof, and publish content via WordPress. Check and execute to ensure search engine optimization.
- Set and execute functional content calendars – themed according to our editorial calendar.
- Manage a team of freelance contributors.
- Be responsive to trending news and be able to prioritise commercial content.
- Have a good eye for selecting quality images that grab attention.
- Report on the numbers – engagement and site traffic with data analysis and insight development.
Ideally, you’d have:
- 3+ years experience as a professional content editor, copywriter or blogger
- A passion and alignment with Mum Central’s vision, purpose and core values through your application
- A portfolio of published work with demonstrated ability to amplify content across social media ready to showcase
- A positive outlook, the ability to work in a team and under pressure on deadline
- A superior understanding of social media platforms
- Experience in WordPress and other content management tools
- Solid understanding of SEO practices and how to seek out high-quality search terms to write for
- The ability to work both as part of a team and autonomously and meet tight deadlines
- Strong communication, organisational and time-management skills
- A strong interest in women’s issues, parenting and lifestyle
- A strategic mindset to ensure we capture the content we need and our readers are looking for
