What is a Sound Healing and What Are the Benefits?

I’ve been a creative person for as long as I can remember. This year though, I’ve felt my creative spark dull and feel like I’ve got a creative block. It’s like I’m stuck in a relentless foggy rut with diminishing motivation and energy. My anxiety ebbs and flows throughout the day and I know it’s not ideal, given the nature of my work.

Like many, I was feeling overwhelmed by life

The past 18 months have seen us in the grips of a pandemic and yet the stressors of life continue to plough on regardless. While we like to keep on keeping on, push through the challenges around us, we eventually hit the wall. There’s ALWAYS a wall.

When admitting my defeat to a friend, she suggested a sound healing. I’m not an actively woo-woo kind of person. While I do find it interesting and I love to hear friends talk of their experiences, it’s definitely not something I’ve actively sought for myself.

Wait, what actually IS sound healing?

Sound what? I hear you ask (I know because I thought the same). Sound healing helps reduce stress, anxiety and depression, balancing and clearing the mind, leading to a renewed sense of purpose, wellbeing, calm and happiness.

It’s about refreshing, balancing and clearing your energy and chakras. They say you’ll leave feeling rejuvenated and lighter.  Some people even experience deep healing as the sound vibrations open, clear, and balance their chakras and release stuck energy. Amazing hey!

I’d never looked into my chakras before, but once my friend explained what they were and how integral they were to me feeling balanced and in tune, I knew this could likely be part of the reason why I was feeling so out of whack!

She shared her experience on how it had helped her to rebalance her energy, focus, motivation and specifically help reignite her creative spark. She was generally more peaceful and content – yes!  Sign me up – I’m all in for a sound healing session. What have I got to lose?

It’s immersive, SUPER relaxing and quite a beautiful experience.

Not going to lie, I had no idea what I was in for

To be clear, I had NO idea what to expect. All I knew was to wear light and comfy clothes, bring a throw blanket,  drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol 24 hours either side of the session. Easily done.

These sessions are quite an intimate experience of a maximum of 6 at a time which made me even more at ease. You can book a 1:1 session with Pina, however, that’s an 8-12 week wait so I grabbed a spot in one of their group sound healing events from one of their scheduled events. Cheaper and sooner – that’s a win for me!

I arrived at the Isean Crystals, Gifts & Wellness Centre where I was greeted by Pina, a mythical princess-like vision of a woman and I’m immediately at ease. Pina is a well respected Energy Healer so I was keen to see exactly how she could help me and find out for myself what my friend was banging on about! 😉

Upon entering the room I was blown away. The room was filled with so much wow! I can’t even begin to explain what that felt like, however, it really took my breath away. In the room, Pina has strategically placed 34 quartz crystal singing bowls, 60 Tibetan singing bowls, a beautiful Crystal Harp, 6 Gongs and 6 drums (and many, many more things to create a beautiful vibrational experience.

Unlike anything I’d ever experienced

Pina instructed us to lie back on the bed (surrounded by crystals including beneath). We tucked a pillow under our knees and then she made her way around us, covering us with our blanket and asking us if we’re ready to start. I had a large Tibetan singing bowl at the crown of my head and a smaller one on either side. I couldn’t wait to see what this all meant.

As I began to close my eyes, focussing on Pina’s voice and the vibrational sounds of the singing bowls she was playing, I can FEEL myself letting go of the moment and relaxing. I concentrate on my breathing while I soak up the sounds and vibrations of the singing bowls. Such amazing vibrations, taking over my body, Pina’s incredible voice bringing it all together. I can feel the vibrations start to fill my body. WOW!

The bowls are all different sizes and produce sounds at varying pitches. Together they create beautiful music. The various sound frequencies then slow down brain waves to a deeply restorative state, which activates the body’s system of self-healing.

Crystal bowls, for example, are tuned to the notes of the seven chakras. The gong is said to help release tension in the body and stimulates the glandular and nervous systems. Pina has the intuitiveness to know what parts of your body require healing, and in the process balances your chakras too! Perfect to get my body back into balance, and help the creative juices flow again.

The vibrations consumed me

Pina moves around the room slowly as I try to relax into a meditative state. My mind keeps pulling me back, but that’s ok. I just lay there listening to Pina switching between playing singing bowls, drums, the harp and gongs. In between all this she attends to each of us, one by one, to give us the energy and healing we need. How does she know what we need? She just knows. Intuition at its finest!

At one point she places heavy singing bowls on my body while singing in Light Language and I can feel the vibration of bowls rippling through my body. It’s as baffling as it is comforting and without a shadow of a doubt, healing. She says it actually connects to our soul, and somehow upon looking back at the entire experience, I can really understand why!

After an hour, Pina instructs us to concentrate on our breathing as we slowly begin to return to the here and now. I slowly sit up as the session comes to an end and, to be frank, I really don’t want to leave. I’m feeling the most relaxed I have in WEEKS. I’m so peaceful.

Would I recommend sound healing to a friend?

Now, I know I said I hadn’t actively sought this kind of treatment before, but HEAR ME OUT.

Hand on heart, I can say in the days following, I felt that invisible rut lifting. I felt at peace, balanced and with awesome clarity and focus. My creative spark was coming back and I actually felt back in control and wanting more from life again.

So yes, I absolutely would recommend sound healing to a friend. Will I do it again? HECK, YES! BOOK ME IN!

If you’re feeling fed up, foggy or fatigued – open your mind to this alternative form of therapy. You’ve got nothing to lose and a whole lot of blissed-out relaxation (and all of its benefits) to gain!

NOTE: This is not a sponsored post.  It was just such a beautiful and positive experience I wanted to share with you all for inspiration.  All opinions are my own.
