Switch to something better โ BRITA filtered water
For me, the main reason to swap straight-from-the-tap water for filtered water is for my kids. Iโve heard for quite some time that tap water contains chemicals like chlorine which โ though itโs needed to help kill those nasties โ can make the water smell and taste a bit funny (and, which my finicky kids clearly can pick up on). Some kids love water. My kids, not so much. Yes, they drink it, but if they had their way, they would live on juice.
I knew they werenโt getting enough water and figured filtered water might be the push they need to choose water over sugar-laden juice.
How much water should my kids drink anyway?
According to theย NSW governmentย Healthy Kids initiative, the recommended daily amount of fluids is:
- 5 glasses (1 litre) for 5 to 8 year olds
- 7 glasses (1.5 litres) for 9 to 12 year olds
- 8 to 10 glasses (2 litres) for 13+ years
Plus, kids should drink more if they live in a hot area (which we do) and are active (which they are).
Since switching to the Brita water filters, Iโve seen a massive change in their drinking habits.ย My kids love the idea of being able to fill the Brita jug, pour their own water and have clean, cold water on demand whenever they want. Itโs part of their routine now โ whenever they are thirsty, they know where to go to get water. And they donโt annoy me to do it for them (winning!).
Here are a few more reasons why weโre loving the Brita water filter (and we reckon you will too!).
Itโs incredibly easy to use!ย
Turn on. Fill. Place in fridge. Pour. Thatโs it. The Marella jug holds 2.4 litres of water, which is just the perfect daily amount for me. Plus the Active water bottles, both with their own filters, hold 600mls of water, which is ideal for my two kids. Fill them up twice a day and theyโve made their daily water goal!
It makes water yummy
Okay, so not โjuiceโ yummy. But nicer than that disinfectanty taste or smell that tap water often comes with.
Itโs better than tap or bottled water
Without going into the nitty gritty scientificy stuff, BRITA filters significantly reduce chemical impurities like chlorine AND heavy metal impurities, such as lead.
The new MAXTRA+ Limescale filter, as the name suggests also reduces limescale, which is left behind from hard water and can ruin your kitchen kettles and coffee machines. In fact, these nifty new filters remove 50% more limescale than the standard MAXTRA+ filters. So youโll ALWAYS have a morning coffee to wake up to while keep your espresso machines in great condition. And thatโs important!
It can save you heaps of money
No more wasting money on bottled water! This is awesome news, not just for your bank account, but also for the environment. You can pick up a Marella Brita water jug for just $34 plus 12 months of filters for an additional $99!

I live in a old Queenslander which must have old rusty water pipes as our water is a murky colour and tastes shocking. The Brita Water Filter pack would allow my kids to enjoy the taste of fresh clean and clear water again. The Disability Pension doesnt allow me to purchase luxury items like this – Surprised ? My kids would be if we WON one of this amazingly wonderful packs. Thanks Guys
The chemicals used in filtration do not give us nice drinking water. Our water is still hard in Adelaide. It is harsher on your skin than the water in Melbourne.
