Apple has released an urgent worldwide update request for almost all Mac systems and iOS devices after experts discovered two security bugs, both of which allow hackers to steal information from people’s computers and devices.
The recall impacts all modern processors and affects nearly all computing devices and operating systems.
What’s going on?
Bugs. Bugs everywhere! Well, in all Mac devices at least. These security bugs, which go by the names of Meltdown and Spectre have the ability to bypass hardware barriers so hackers can steal sensitive information and passwords.
Our computers and our phones hold A LOT of information. Most of us do our banking online these days. And many of us also have apps to help us manage our finances and other jobs required in adulting.
Fortunately, the solution to keeping your secrets safe and secure is a simple one – update your device. Yes, we know. Updating is one of the most annoying jobs ever. But, this time it might be a good idea.
Upgrade required immediately
According to Apple, “All Mac systems and iOS devices are affected, but there are no known exploits impacting customers at this time
Since exploiting many of these issues requires a malicious app to be loaded on your Mac or iOS device, we recommend downloading software only from trusted sources such as the App Store.”
- If you have an iPhone or iPad, install iOS 11.2.2
- If you have a Mac computer, install macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 Supplemental Update and Safari 11.0.2
- At this stage, Apple Watch and Apple TV devices are not affected.
