- Your baby maybe doesn’t know if it’s night or day. In the early days, newborns and young babies are still working out their days from their nights, and it’s really common for them to sleep all day and be up all night! Keep things bright during the day and dark at night so they eventually catch on.
- Keep the temperature right. Being cosy often keeps your babe sleeping. Not too hot, not too cold – but just right. Invest in a room thermometer and dress your bub accordingly.
- Too noisy, too quiet. Is your bub sensitive to sound? If there are other kids in the house, chances are your baby will sleep through anything. However, if this is your first bub they might want a little noise. White noise is awesome, as is a quietly playing radio – keep it to nice tones though, no newborn needs Eminem on their Spotify list.
- Not all nappies are created equal. Your baby will sleep for longer periods of time (hopefully) without a nappy change. Make sure they’re wearing nappies that are up for the challenge and can absorb and wick away the wetness on repeat!
- Sometimes babies just want to snuggle. If you’ve tried EVERYTHING and your bub is just restless and wants to snuggle, then admit defeat. They won’t be snuggly forever and this too shall pass. Maybe not soon, but it will eventually.
