Heavily pregnant Tanya St. Preux went into Target searching for a pair of shoes. She left with a newborn.
Because, as we all know, it’s impossible to go into Target and come out with just ONE item.Â
Imagine giving birth at the front of a busy superstore? This became a crazy reality for Tanya, who unexpectedly welcomed a baby boy in the entrance of a Target store in Georgia, USA.
Tanya, her mum and her sister had made the trek to Target to pick up some shoes when Tanya went into active labour. Tanya’s mum noticed her grandson wasn’t willing to wait and quickly called out for help.
Shop til you drop (a baby)
Luckily for Tanya, a fellow shopper, who also happens to be a labour and delivery nurse at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, stepped in. The nurse, Caris Lockwood, 24, rushed to Tanya’s side and assisted her through the labour and delivery.
Tanya gave birth to a healthy 3.45 kg baby boy at 5pm on 25 August. Yep… pretty much peak shopping time when the store would have been packed with people.
Target birth achieved
Piedmont Healthcare recently shared the touching story on their Facebook page with a photo of Caris, Tanya and the Target-born bubba. Don’t both women look AMAZINGLY CALM after just going through a public birthing experience?
The new mum had nothing but good things to say about Caris, who has been a labour and delivery nurse with Piedmont Atlanta Hospital for two years. “Caris was God-sent and amazing,” Tanya said. “She was sweet and caring and exceeded everyone’s expectations. She went way over, far and beyond.”
It’s incredible to think how quickly some babies arrive (Not my two. They took their sweet-ass time exiting my womb and breaking my lady bits along the way. Thanks a lot, kids).
Love a whacky birth story? Then have a look at this speedy en caul birth, which happened on the way to hospital.Â

I don’t remember the whole story but I read about a Mum who suddenly went into labour and gave birth in a Coles Supermarket before the Ambulance arrived. I can’t remember whether or not it was her first baby. Coles later gave them a baby parcel.
