Could This MedicAlert Bracelet Save Your Child’s Life?

A couple of months ago we started working with MedicAlert to raise awareness of their life-saving jewellery.

In case you missed it, becoming a member means that for those of us with medical conditions, allergies or are sometimes unable to speak for ourselves, all of the important medical information is loaded onto MedicAlert’s secure information database, accessible 24 hours a day via the unique membership number engraved on your piece of jewellery.

In the event of an accident or emergency, the jewellery being located at the pulse points will alert emergency service and healthcare professionals to your specific needs when it matters most – especially when you can’t speak for yourself. Whilst we see this as an important resource for us grown-ups we are particularly passionate about it for young children and people who may not have a voice.

MedicAlert tells us that the most commonly registered conditions for children are:

  • Nut allergies
  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Epilepsy

For adults the most common are:

  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Pacemakers
  • Penicillin allergies
  • Bee allergies

For parents of children with potentially life-threatening conditions and allergies, MedicAlert represents true peace of mind because, let’s face it, we’re not always there to be their advocate.

Bonnie McAlinden and her mum Kathy share their story with us here:

Remember that medical professionals, including first aid responders, are trained to first check pulse points [wrists, neck] where MedicAlert jewellery is located. The quicker that they can obtain further information from the emergency hotline engraved on the jewellery could be the difference between life and death.

Becoming a MedicAlert member represents great value for money, especially when you consider how little it costs each week. Plus, it could literally save your or your child’s life and we all know, we can’t put a price on that!
