I’m Calling it. Galentine’s Day is More Important Than Valentine’s Day

Galentine’s Day is a THING and I’m totally here for it. In fact, I’d almost go as far as saying it kind of trumps Valentine’s Day. Harsh? Maybe. True? Most definitely.

Galentine’s Day? What the?

Yep, you heard it right, I said GALentine’s Day. Celebrated the day BEFORE Valentine’s, mark your calendar for Galentine’s Day on the 13th of February. A whole day where it doesn’t matter if you’re single, married, heartbroken or just plain fed up with your love-life. It’s a day to dedicate to your gal-pals and celebrate friendship!

Gather your Galentine’s squad

It’s not too late to call the ladies in your life and organise a dinner, a drink after work, a picnic, heck even a group virtual call to catch up and celebrate friendship and the sisterhood. Galentine’s Day is the day to reconnect, lift spirits and boost morale in your squad troop.

A day to tell your mum, your sister, your aunt, your BFF, heck even your neighbour that their friendship is appreciated and loved. Let’s face it, some of us forget those feelings when dealing with groundhog day activities and every second person asking “what’s for dinner?”. UGH.

It’s a big call, but Galentine’s is BETTER than Valentine’s

I’m calling it.

I see my husband every day. I’ve seen my husband every. single. day for the past 20+ years. And we swap “I love you’s” at least once a day. More if I’m shopping for homewares or beelining it to Kmart. Alas, I digress. We don’t need Valentine’s Day to say hey, I love you, let’s have dinner. He and the kids are top of my priority list every day. My girl squad, not so much, they’re the ones that get pushed down the priority line of life.

And you know what, it doesn’t matter if your gal-pals aren’t gals. Grab those who are your nearest and dearest, the ones who are in the trenches with you, pick you up with words of support when you need it and hold your hair back from your face when you REALLY need it. Your support network, let’s celebrate it – the Hallmark calendar says so!

So without further ado, make a few phone calls, send a text or five and organise a get-together (no matter how quick – after-work drink? Great!) for February 13th. It will fill your cup both figuratively and literally, might even put you in a good mood to shave your legs for the following night. #winkwink
