On the very slim chance you haven’t been introduced so far, we want you to meet The Elf on the Shelf!
We’re super big fans of this magical little guy and consider it our community service announcement to make sure you know about him too.
The time in your parenting journey where children ‘believe’ is truly not long enough. One of the best parts of motherhood is ‘creating the magic’ for our little people and allowing them to linger a little longer in the happy place that is pure and undoubting innocence. These are the moments you can’t bottle, the ones you want to never end and the times you’ll look happily back on when your own rituals have evolved to become treasured family traditions.
Cue our love affair with the Elf on the Shelf.
What!? You haven’t heard of Elf on the Shelf? Here’s what you need to know!
The Elf on The Shelf: A Christmas Tradition is a magical story that explains how Santa’s scout elves help him manage the Naughty or Nice List. Each illustrated, hardcover book comes as part of a presentation box that also includes your very own scout Elf. This Elf is charged with watching over your home and reporting the family’s day to Santa each night.
When a family christens their Elf a chosen name he receives his ‘Christmas magic’ and can then fly home to the North Pole each night. Each morning the Elf returns to its family and perches in a different place to continue watching the festive fun, creating a unique family moment. Children delight in racing around the house and finding where their scout Elf has landed next! Be warned, you can never touch your Elf as little fingers will break the Christmas magic!
Whilst elves have infiltrated Aussie homes in years prior, 2016 is a festive milestone as The Elf on The Shelf: A Christmas Tradition officially launches in Australia.
Why should your family adopt an Elf this year?
For the team at Mum Central, we’re truly passionate about having an Elf in our home. Of course there’s the immediate ‘The Elf is watching…’ benefits that encourages positive and kind behaviours but the gifts of adopting an Elf run far deeper than that.
Making memories and following or adopting rituals is how family culture is born. Traditions such as The Elf on the Shelf provide us with a source of family identity. They strengthen our bonds, teach values and bring ritual and rhythm to the seasonality of family life. Year after year our children delight in the immediate joy of an Elf, not yet old enough to realise that one day in the future they’ll do the very same for their own offspring.
Lastly, we’d be lying if we didn’t tell you this straight. We Mum Central girls have a giant crush on The Elf on the Shelf. This is not just kid-fun. This is serious mummy-fun too. Before you know it you’ll be excitedly planning his next move, relishing the joy he brings into your home and appreciating the Christmas spirit he sprinkles! We’re here to assure you, every home needs an Elf… because big or small you’re never too old to believe in a little magic!
Can’t wait a minute longer?
To adopt your very own family Elf you’ll need to visit your local Official Elf Adoption Centre. You can find these at Myer, Dymocks and specialty retailers.

What a beautiful way to introduce the magic of Christmas for my daughter’s first Christmas
It would be fun to have one to move each day, and see how long fingers resist touching it and sort the naughty from the nice. I guarantee curiosity will occur pretty quickly.. I can’t wait to catch one of them at it.
I love the magic of Christmas and how better to share it at home than with our very own Elf

What a great thing to have in the classroom especially at the end of the year!
Watching the excitement on the kids faces every morning while trying to find where the elf next pops up!
Firstly I know little about Elf on the shelf. As a child growing up, I never got the chance to ‘Believe’ as it was non-existent in my household. I have done the opposite for my children to give them the magic of Christmas, it would be nice to start this tradition with Elf on the Shelf with my family and for it to be passed down the generations.
Christmas is such an exciting time for kids, so it’s great to have a fun lead up to the big day!
My daughters daycare does elf on the shelf. The kids love walking in each morning to see what the cheeky elf has been up to.
My eldest has been begging for this so I’m sure that my youngest would be thrilled to have the elf join our family too this xmas
My kids would love it!
I love how it is a bit of fun for the kids leading up to Christmas and the fun you can have it with it is only limited by your imagination. Being a teacher, I would also love be one for my classroom.
The magic of the Elf, how does he do those crazy things and move around, my daughter would be excited!
This is my daughter’s 3 christmas and first one that she is starting to understand and get into the christmas spirit. I would love to win this for her as she would be so excited to wake up every morning to find him!
i love that it can be so much fun and everyone can join in
My mum, who is a big kid at heart, has been knocked off her perch a bit lately (her words), Elf on a Shelf would be perfect for her and her little visitors over christmas, a bit of fun during the festive season which could become a new christmas tradition for us all! Thanks Mum Central
i love that he makes my girls giggle, when they find what mischief he’s gotten up to while they were asleep!
Have seen alot about the elf on the shelf. I would love him to visit our house and capture all the shinnigans that go on !!
I have actually never had an elf on the shelf, so would love to get him up to some shenanigans to make the kids laugh.
I love the cheekiness, creativeness and excitement that he brings to Christmas!! Fun for all involved!!
The “Elf on the Shelf” makes me think of how wonderful Christmas is and how blessed I am to have such a wonderful family of Children, Grand children and Great Grandchildren. May everyobe have a HAPPY CHRISTMAS

I want to start a tradition of photos of the antics of the Elf in our house
I have a perfectly good shelf that is going to waste!!!
It would keep my kids happy and excited about Christmas.
I love the extra excitement that the elf on the shelf brings to the magic of christmas.
The best bit would be the creative challenge in our house. My (competitive) husband would be recreating all sorts of film sets and elf scenarios to impress the kids. But ultimately it’s about seeing their reactions.
My children love looking forward to things, so elf on a shelf would be a great addition to the count down to Christmas. Also I would LOVE creating the little scenes every night. Lot’s of fun!
new tradition to start with my nephews who can then continue with their families as its something that’s not part of our greek/malay traditions
Always wanted one but never see them anywhere
Elf on the shelf inspires Christmas magic in his own cute little ways. Gorgeous!
Elf on the shelf brings spirit and the passion of Christmas to many not just in your home. The humourous Elf explores frivolous fantasies and unlocks the child within you.
mostly his bemused facial expression
It was the nights before Christmas and not a sound could be heard, except for the parents whispering a word
what should we do with elf tonight? play with the lego? the barbie? the light?
The children would love to find him – eating treats, or should we put him on the dolls house seats?
How do we keep up the Christmas glee? for the children, the grandparents? You and me?
Perhaps its we parents who need a hand, to protect kids innocence across the land
Elf on the shelf will help us spread magic and joys, to all of the good little girls and boys
Because the magic of Christmas is something to cherish, the belief in Santa, a sweet thought to relish
We do hope to win this dear little elf, to sit upon OUR family shelf
We promise to play and make kids believe – elf on the shelf until Xmas eve!
Very Cute little Elf! Would love to win him -Jess

It’s a Sweet and Fun Christmas Tradition that can be added for the kids.
I love the escapades he gets up to- mummy has more fun than the kids!!!
Would love to finally have an elf on the shelf, I think my kids will love all the adventures elf would get up to.
It is fun seeing what our Elf Sparkle gets up to each night! My little girl loves her elf.

The magic for my nephews.
He is hilarious and would keep the family entertained for hours. We would love to have him as part of our Christmas tradition.
He’d be the cutest little weapon in my quest to ensure good behaviour before Christmas because the Elf on the Shelf is always watching for Santa!
We would give him a very happy, loving home. I would love to see the look on my 2.5 year old son’s face when he finds him each morning. I’m sure my 9 year old boy would be just as excited too!!

Fun and simple little extra Christmas spirit
I love that the adults have just as much fun with them

I’d love to bring the magic and wonder back into Christmas for the adults. I don’t know who would have more fun with this elf- the kids or hubby and I!
I live the Elf on the Shelf brings some extra magic to the Christmas season.
All the mischief and mayhem he can get into with the kids ‘stuff’ during the night, to get caught amidst the action, first thing every morning as the kids come racing down the stairs to see if they can catch him in the act. So much more fun than an advent calendar, well at least for this Dad anyway.
He’s an interactive tradition. And I love how he being such a naughty little elf, makes the kids be super good during the lead up to Christmas. So many friends have an elf on the shelf, and one Elf pinches a Christmas present from under the tree when the kids are naughty! Love it.
How ingenious I can be!
I love the excitement that it will bring in the lead up to christmas as my son searches the house for what the elf got up to the night before 🙂
What a fabulous Christmas tradition to start every year to encourage the kids to be on their best behaviour. A fabulous prize to win.

Love the cheekiness, magic and charm Elf On The shelf brings.
brings a little extra magic & fun to Christmas for the kids 🙂
The face on the Elf reminds me of those glittery fairies on a stick when I was a little girl. Seeing something similar but in a christmas form, it brings back a lot of memories and would be nice for the kids to have something to look back on when they’re much older. Memories are priceless.

This little ELF sure makes a HUGE impression. and we all know good things come in small packages. Living in a unit, so I could only imagine the FUN we could get up to at our place to help my 2 little helpers behave even better 😉
An Elf on the Shelf that migrates around the household, being naughty or nice.. the little ones would enjoy searching and relate to him.. ever watching. Better than Mum’s eyes at the ‘ back of her head ‘ catching them being less naughty and hopefully more ‘nice’.
We love going all out for Christmas, this is another one of those little touches that takes Christmas to the next level.
