Attention Mitsubishi car owners! If you have a Mitsubishi Lancer, Mitsubishi ASX or a Mitsubishi Outlander parked in your garage, then it’s time to check your VIN.

You car could be one of almost 50,000 Mitsubishi vehicles just recalled due to a potential for engine failure, prompting fears that drivers may get caught in accidents.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has put out an urgent recall on nearly 50,000 Mitsubishi vehicles across Australia.

The problem lies in the power relays which can lead to overheating and engine failure.

“The engine may stall during driving, fail to restart or failsafe protection may be activated, with a loss of engine power,” the notice sau=ys. “An unexpected loss of engine power may result in an accident.”

Is your car on the list?

The recall relates to the following vehicle models:

  • Mitsubishi Lancer (CJ & CF) 15-16MY
  • Mitsubishi Outlander (ZJ & ZK) 14MY & 16-17MY
  • and Mitsubishi ASX (XB) 15-15.5MY

The recall identifies 48,209 vehicles affected and includes a complete list of vehicle identification numbers so you can check to see if your car is impacted by the recall.

What next?

If your car is on the list, then you need to have the faulty part replaced.

“Mitsubishi Motors Australia will contact all known owners by mail and advise them to present their vehicle to their preferred dealer to replace the affected Power Relay/s,” the notice explains.

Consumers who require further information should contact Mitsubishi Motors Australia on 1300 1312 11 or contact their closest Mitsubishi dealer.

The Mitsubishi recall follows the mass airbag safety alert earlier this year, which saw more than two million cars recalled over faulty Takata airbags.
