If you’re gearing up for a big night of Netflix binging, fix yourself a decadent churros snack – complete with a luxuriously silky vanilla Caramilk sauce to (double) dip into. YUM!
Caramilk is back on the shelves (for now) folks so we want to make the most of it while it’s here – and who doesn’t love munching churros all winter long?
You can cook these churros by dropping lengths of batter into oil, but my chosen method is with the Kmart Churros Maker (pictured below). Much like the Kmart Sausage Roll Maker, these aren’t ALWAYS available all year round, so be quick if you see them on the Kmart shelves!
Cinnamon churros with vanilla Caramilk sauce recipe (Makes 20)
Ingredients
Churros
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/3 cup self-raising flour
- 2 tablespoons caster sugar
- 1 1/3 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon room temperature butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
- 1 pinch of salt
Cinnamon sugar dust:
- ½ cup caster sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup melted butter
Vanilla & Caramilk sauce
- 180g Cadbury’s Caramilk chocolate, chopped
- 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
- ¼ cup sweetened condensed milk
- ¼ cup warmed cream
Method
1. Beat the eggs in a mixing bowl until well combined.
2. Add the four, sugar, milk, butter, salt and vanilla to the eggs and mix until smooth. Set the mixture aside for 30 minutes.
3. Preheat the churros maker. Use a pastry brush to brush the non-stick machine plates with melted butter or oil. Using a piping bag (or jug), pour the mixture into the churros maker.
4. Cook for around 3 minutes or until golden brown. Repeat for the remaining mixture.
5. To make the cinnamon sugar: combine the sugar and cinnamon in a shallow dish. While warm, brush the cooked churros with the melted butter then roll in the cinnamon sugar.
6. To make the vanilla Caramilk sauce: combine the Caramilk chocolate, condensed milk and cream in a heatproof bowl. Place the heatproof bowl over a small saucepan of simmering water (double boiler style, don’t let it touch the water!). Stir with a metal spoon until smooth and shiny. Yum!
7. Plate up and serve (the sauce will thicken upon cooling, but can be gently reheated in the microwave for 15 seconds on HIGH).
