Blue is back! And it’s better than ever, thanks to Cirque du Soleil’s latest show – Toruk – The First Flight.Â
James Cameron’s visually stunning Avatar comes alive on stage at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre. My husband and I were lucky enough to leave the little ones with a sitter and take in the action.
And, let me be the first to say, WOW.  If you’re looking for something different to do with the family (or as a date night with the hubby), I cannot recommend Toruk enough.
What’s it all about?
We all remember James Cameron’s Avatar, right? You know, the big blue forest people who are trying to protect their culture and community? Toruk – The First Flight returns to this visually stunning paradise known as Pandora, but through a live multimedia spectacular.
The story is narrated by “Na’vi Storyteller” and the plot is easy to follow (I won’t reveal too much though, as I don’t want to spoil it). But I will tell you that the story takes place thousands of years before the events depicted in the film AVATAR, and before any humans ever set foot on Pandora.
Prepare to be amazed!
The story unfolds right in front of you and through a number of different visual effects, from puppetry to acrobatics. The show is choreographed brilliantly and the performers were incredible to watch. The strength, the coordination, the agility – amazing!
The costumes were second to none. So mesmerising, vivid and the use of colour, fabrics and textures were second to none. It just drew you in even more to the story!
The engineering was incredible! Floors opened up as new stages appeared, and the props were just nothing but incredible!
Lighting effects created rivers, earthquakes, storms and more …. truly mesmerising!
Be a part of the show!
Another fun thing about Toruk – The First Flight, is that you can be part of the show through this nifty little app. Simply download the app on your phone (it works with all platforms), fill in your seat number, and prepare to be blown away. The app then sends you notifications throughout the show to make the show totally interactive. It even sends realistic sounds to really immerse you in the experience.
Puppets, acrobats and so much more!
If you’ve even seen a Cirque du Soleil show before, you know how intense the performance can be. Visually stunning, it’s a feast for all the senses.
But perhaps the coolest thing was the kites, which glide up above and swoop down in a number of different scenes. They represent the wings of the characters and are just so mesmerising to watch.
Toruk – The First Flight, is on stage for the tail end of its Aussie tour in Adelaide and Perth. Click on the link below to find out full dates and buy tickets!
