So How do you Play Piles!?

In essence, players are dealt six face-down piles of four cards each and set four cards face-up in the middle.ย

All players play simultaneously, there are no turns.ย

The goal is to turn each of your piles into a matching set of four cards showing the same article of clothing (but in different colours).ย

To do this you:

  • Pick up one of your face-down piles and look at it (you can only hold one pile at a time)
  • Discard one card from that pile face-up into the centre
  • Then immediately take one card from the centre and add it to your pile
  • Once youโ€™ve swapped cards you place your pile back facedown (unless itโ€™s now a completed set).
  • When a pile has all four cards matching (same clothing item), you flip that pile face-up in front of you to show itโ€™s done.ย

The moment one player has all six of their piles face-up as completed sets, they shout โ€œPiles!โ€ and they winโ€”provided all their piles are indeed correct. If not, the game continues.ย

Thatโ€™s the gist of it โ€” fast, frantic, simultaneous swapping until someone completes all six piles.

Piles! is the Genius Gift Idea

Looking for Christmas gift ideas for kids or stocking stuffer games that wonโ€™t get tossed aside after five minutes? Piles! is the one.

Once Piles! hits the table, you start off thinking itโ€™ll be a quick round or two, then suddenly itโ€™s an hour later and everyoneโ€™s still playing. Even the kids who usually drift off halfway through other games are hooked the whole time.
