Introducing Cobs Premium Popcorn. Gluten Free, Nut Free & Australian Made!

When I was growing up there were only two types of popcorn. The warm buttery, salty stuff that you bought by the bucket at the movies and the home-made stuff that you made from kernels in a pot on the stove-top.

We didn’t have either type very often.

But popcorn has come quite a long way since days of yore and now, the ready-made stuff is a staple in our pantry. We’re also fans of microwave popcorn but that’s a whole other story!

Until now our favourites have been buttery, sweet and salty and caramel. I say these were our favourite flavours because, to be frank, they were the only flavours we knew were available.

And then we found Cobs Popcorn.

Cobs-Popcorn-Flavours
The Cobs Popcorn family – From back left: Cheddar Cheese, Aged White Cheddar, Coco Crunch, Sea Salt & Cider Vinegar, Nacho Cheese, Lightly Salted, Slightly Sweet, Sea Salt and Butter.

Cobs Popcorn is an Australian popcorn brand started by John and Ravit Walys in 2004. Like many parents, they were looking for a healthy snack for their children and, like many parents, struggled to find anything. Dissatisfied with what was available on the market they did what many parents have done are thankful for and created their own.

Remember, Cobs Popcorn has nothing artificial and they use the very best organic and natural ingredients.

Their 100% wholegrain corn is made in small batches using ingredients like sunflower oil, raw sugar, or sea salt in a dedicated nut free facility.  So you know each packet is gluten-free AND nut-free which makes the multipack packets perfect for school lunchboxes!

Their Cobsmacking Multipack takes the stress and hassle out of school lunchboxes, picnics, travel snacks and more. Now the hardest decision you will have to make is which flavour to try first!  Buy in single or multi-flavour packs. Such a tasty snack!

Cobs offers an Organic selection, with the 100% wholegrain corn being made in small batches using ingredients like sunflower oil, sea salt or raw sugar in just the right proportions to create a taste sensation that keeps people coming back for more.

Their range of flavours is RIDICULOUSLY large for popcorn. And we’ve tried all of them, however here’s our favourites:

Belinda’s Top 3:

Cobs-Popcorn-Belinda-Top-3
By far Nacho Cheese was the standout in the Jennings family, closely followed by traditional sea salt and delicious cheddar cheese. Kids loved the cheddar cheese more than anything!

[mc_block_title custom_title=”1. Nacho Cheese”]

These were hands down a winner in our house! My husband and I both love a bit of spice and these didn’t disappoint. The kids weren’t so keen (whcih isn’t always a bad thing – more for us) and we devourted these in no time.  These were really morish so be careful when in their company, the packet might actually empty itself! So if you’re a spicy nacho kinda person – get your laughing gear around these.

[mc_block_title custom_title=”2. Sea Salt”]

This was one of my ultimate fave. Subtle salt flavour yet enough to give you a good salted popcorn experience. Winner, especially in the smaller packs for lunch boxes.

[mc_block_title custom_title=”3. Cheddar”]

Winner, winner, cheese dinner. This reminded the boys of cheese Twisties but so much lighter, tastier and healthier! Very morish so be warned!

Tania’s Top 3:

Cobs-Popcorn-Tania-Top-3
Tania couldn’t help herself – Aged White Cheddar (she’s the biggest cheese fan in town so not totally surprised!), Lightly Salted, Slightly Sweet and Coco Crunch.

[mc_block_title custom_title=”1. Aged White Cheddar”]

This is one of my favourite flavours – second to Lightly Salted, Slightly Sweet. It’s salty and mild and a perfectly grown-up snack. I have also decided that it would be sensational on a cheese-platter and will be adding it to my repertoire! You heard it here first!

[mc_block_title custom_title=”2. Lightly Salted, Slightly Sweet”]

What is this is tasty wizardry that combines sugar and salt? Honestly, there is nothing quite like it. I have been known to put away a family packet of these ON MY OWN in half an hour flat. A full bag doesn’t even last a whole movie with me which is a problem because the whole family loves this one. So I may or may not hide them until after everyone’s gone to bed…

[mc_block_title custom_title=”2. Cocoa Crunch”]

Ummmm YUM! Just like a chocolate milkshake only crunchy… and no milk. Seriously, we ALL loved this one.

Here’s the rest of the savoury range:

[mc_block_title custom_title=”Butter”]

Unlike other buttered popcorn, the flavour is more from the powdery coating than a greasy butter which was a nice change. Still had the flavour, it was just different, and in our opinion, better.

[mc_block_title custom_title=”Sea Salt and Cider Vinegar”]

If you’re an S&V fan then you’ll be impressed by these. They have just the right balance but just be aware that the Cider Vinegar gives them a slight tang not apparent in other S&V flavours.

Then we met the Cobs Popcorn Sweet Range

Cobs-Popcorn-Sweet-Selection

[mc_block_title custom_title=”1. Caramel”]

These are good with LOTS of caramel. A bit sticky but worth it.

[mc_block_title custom_title=”2. Dark Chocolate Caramel”]

Straight from the fridge, this is like a party in your mouth. Deeeelicious. The eldest son is dark-chocolate fiend and he declared it to be ‘pretty good actually’ then went on to say ‘it’s sort of like Maltesers. But better.’

[mc_block_title custom_title=”3. Milk Chocolate Caramel”]

As above but a bit sweeter. Equally yummy.

[mc_block_title custom_title=”4 & 5. Milk and Dark Chocolate Drizzle Caramel”]

A little something sweet without being over the top. Would be great served after dinner with a dessert wine.

[mc_block_title custom_title=”6. Salted Caramel”]

I am a salted caramel nut and these did not disappoint at all. My only criticism is that the caramel got stuck in my teeth. So I had to wait far too long between mouthfuls!!

Milk Chocolate Caramel would be fabulous favourite to try it. My family love popcorn and chocolate. Cob Popcorn Hamper would bring a lot of happiness for everyone.

The caramel and coco crunch ones sound great, as do the sea salt, nacho cheese and the cheddar cheese.
Actually I think I like the sound of them all really! Except for the sea salt and cider vinegar – only because I’ve never liked salt and vinegar flavours and don’t like most vinegars either

I am keen to try the ‘lightly salted, slightly sweet’ flavour. It sounds like it would taste like popcorn did when I was a child, I can remember the one I bought from the canteen was slightly salty and tossed in icing sugar. So yummy!

  153. Avatar of Jessica

I’d be very keen to try the sea salt & cider vinegar! I’m addicted to salt n vinegar chips so if i could find a healthier alternative that is just as tasty it would be amazing! & of course you can’t go past butter flavour when it comes to popcorn

  154. Avatar of Thals

So many exciting new flavours! I’m especially keen to try the milk chocolate caramel popcorn, along with the aged white cheddar and nacho cheese! 😀

Cheese cheese cheese – I could love on cheese alone so the idea I can now have cheese popcorn just blows my mind . . . No more excuses for unhealthy cheese flavoured corn chips or twisties – bring on the popcorn

  157. Avatar of Jeliza

I would live to try Cobs aged cheddar popcorn and their salted caramel popcorn because sometimes I like something salty and sometimes I like something sweet!

I am a sucker for anything Salted Caramel, so that would top my list personally but am very keen to try all the cheesy varieties as I think my kids would also enjoy those.
