1. Rice water restores glossy hair

Believe it or not, it’s said that rice water is a game-changer in conditioning and restoring a healthy shine to your mane! YES, RICE WATER.

Simply add a cup of rice to a jar, top it up with water and let it soak for a while. Give it a shake, decant the water into a spray bottle with a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Use as a rinse on wet hair for glossy hair.

2. Sugar Body Scrub

If you run out of your favourite body scrub, head to the kitchen! Mix sugar into a hydrating base of coconut or olive oil and give it a quick whiz with a stick blender. To the shower you go and get scrubbing!

3. Eggs and olive oil hair treatment

Before jumping in the shower, try this treatment for creating lush locks. Mix together one egg yolk, one tablespoon of olive oil, and one cup of warm water. Apply the mixture to wet hair. Leave it on for at least 10 minutes before rinsing out and continuing with your regular hair shampoo and conditioner.

4. Cucumbers for puff-mama

We see it ALL the time but does it actually work? IT SURE DOES. Cucumber is known for its cooling properties, helping reduce puffy eyes and I-haven’t-slept-since-forever eye bags. Don’t have a cucumber? Try a pair of cold teaspoons gently rested under your eyes instead.

5. Rice water face toner

An excellent beauty hack, DIY toner! The starchy properties of rice water are believed to be brilliant for soothing inflamed skin prone to redness and breakouts. Apply to a cotton ball and dab the skin, letting it dry naturally.

6. Banana face mask

Want a speedy facemask that can double as a snack? Head to the fruit bowl! Simply mash one banana, full of antioxidants, until it’s a paste and apply to the face.

Take it up a level by adding a tablespoon of honey or moisturising yoghurt. Leave on for 10 minutes before gently wiping off and rinsing.

7. Coconut oil make up remover

Warm-up a spoon of coconut oil in your hand and gently rub your face to remove makeup. Wipe away with a clean, warm face cloth. Voila!

8. Sugar lip scrub

Mix a teaspoon of Vaseline or lip balm with sugar for a cheap as chips lip exfoliant. The more sugar you use, the more grit you have! Mix, apply to lips in a soft circular motion and wipe away. Chapped lips are gone!

9. Coconut oil hair treatment

Need to nourish those dry ends and ward off split ends in your hair? Coconut oil is the answer! Simply take a scoop, warm it up in the palm of your hand and run it through your ends.

TIP: It IS oily – so best done at night (wear a shower cap to protect your pillow) or when you have no plans to go out.

10. Baking soda for dandruff

It’s said that baking soda is excellent for dandruff. Make a paste of baking soda and apple cider vinegar to help balance the pH balance of your scalp and exfoliate those pesky dead skin flakes away.

11. Manuka honey face mask

Manuka honey helps fight acne and puffiness, reduces redness, and leaves your skin feeling smooooooth.  Simply spread one or two tablespoons of manuka honey over your face, leave on for ten minutes and rinse away with warm water. Bliss!

12. Avocado and yoghurt face mask

Avocados are a bit of a precious commodity, I get it. BUT if you happen to have a surplus, try mashing one together with a splash of natural yoghurt. Apply it to your face for a quick 15-minute nourishing pick-me-up for dry skin.

13. Olive oil make up remover

We’ve all got a bottle of olive oil in the pantry, right? If you’re in a real bind you can use olive oil to remove your makeup. Just dab a small amount onto a cotton makeup pad and wipe away your makeup. Just to be clear, I’m talking the liquid variety in a bottle – NOT an aerosol spray can.

There you have it, self-love and pampering is only a pantry away with these beauty hacks, so hop to it!
