I LOVE potato bake but hate peeling potatoes, so if someone wheels out a creamy, potato-laden side dish at dinner I am full of appreciation for the work involved. That said, this easy potato bake recipe reel has gone viral with just 3 ingredients and I am totally here for it because there’s NO PEELING OF POTATOES involved. Not one single spud. Hooray!
Jen Emery posted a quick Reel on Facebook of her 3-ingredient potato bake side dish and to say it went bonkers would be an understatement. The video has received over 8,000 likes and more than 800 comments. And while sure, it’s not a traditional potato bake, it’s a pretty good alternative for families who are watching their purse strings.
Easy potato bake recipe – no peeler required!
Put away your peeler because this 3-ingredient potato bake is the quickest throw-together side dish you’ll see this winter AND it delivers a flavour bomb. Sure, it takes a while to cook but with the two-minute prep time, it all balances out.
When fresh vegetables are a little hard to get and their prices are skyrocketing, it’s a good idea to turn to the tinned or frozen variety. And who even knew tinned potatoes were a thing? And just $1.60 a tin, score! Jen’s recipe uses three tins of whole baby potatoes (that’s a bit over a kilogram combined) making it a great side dish for bringing to a BBQ or the fun kind of friends or family dinner where everyone brings a dish.
So what are the three ingredients you need?
Drumroll please… the three ingredients you need are simply tinned peeled whole baby potatoes, a large 600ml tub of thickened cream and the holy grail magical ingredient – French onion soup mix. I’ve sung its 70s and 80s cooking vibe praises before and I’ll do it over and over again. French onion soup mix rules. It really does, you can’t tell me any different.

Jen’s viral and very easy potato bake recipe
Prep time: 2 minutes
Cook time: 1 hour
1. Preheat the oven to 180ºC. Find a deep oven-proof dish – a lasagne dish is a perfect choice as it has high sides and can handle the oven heat.
2. Pop the lid off those tins of whole baby potatoes, tip out the tin fluid and fill up with water, giving them a little shake around. Tip the baby potatoes into a colander to give them a good rinse and drain. Place the rinsed and drained potatoes into the lasagne dish.
3. Sprinkle the French onion soup mix evenly over the top of the potatoes, followed by pouring the thickened cream over the top.
4. Give the potato, soup mix and cream mixture all a stir and then cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for a further 30 minutes. Let stand for five minutes and then serve. Yum!
