These are the perfect starter sleep set for any newborn and makes an amazing baby shower gift or present for a new mum.
But first, let’s talk about TOGÂ
What the heck is this and what does it have to do with my baby?Â
TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade and is a standard unit of measurement to measure clothing insulation. Yep, ladies and gents, clothing has its very own unit of measurement and I was today years old when I discovered this.
A garment’s TOG is actually incredibly important, especially when it comes to sleepwear for our babies. After all, babies need very little reason to wake up in the middle of the night, and being too hot or too cold is definitely a reason to holler for mum at 2am. And 3am. Probably also 4am.
Safer sleep starts with the right TOG rating
But perhaps the most important reason to consider the TOG rating is for your baby’s safety when asleep. Safer sleep is better sleep and preventing babies from overheating is an important part of safe sleep.
By choosing the right TOG rating for your child’s sleepwear, dependant on where you live and what season you’re in, you will ensure they remain at the correct temperature overnight.
There are five TOG ratings:
- 0.2 TOG (for hotter climates and rooms)
- 0.5 TOG (for heatwaves and summer)
- 1.0 TOG (for summer and daytime naps, warmer weather and warm rooms)
- 2.5 TOG (for year-round for standard room)
- 3.5 TOG (For winter, cold temperature for cold rooms)
A sleepbag with a 3.5 TOG is going to be a lot warmer than a sleepbag with a 0.2 TOG. Using a 3.5 TOG rating sleepbag is also most likely going to be too hot for your baby as you approach spring/summer.
For spring and summer, your best bet is going to be a 1.0 TOG or a 0.2 TOG.
But, of course, this depends on where you are. Little tropical Queenslander babies, for example, will most likely be rocking the 0.2 TOG this summer while Melbourne munchkins may still be cosy in a 1.0 TOG or 2.5 TOG during summer.
Our recommendation when it comes to spring and summer sleepwear is to invest in a couple of lower TOG rating sleepbags to get your bub through the warmer months.
We love the Tommee Tippee Grobags and have for years and years. And we’re not the only ones. These sleepbags have won multiple awards and our Mum Central reviewers gave their Swaddle Grobags a near-perfect rating.
In fact, 85% of 320 parents agreed their baby slept better in a Grobag than in other bedding*. We love them so much we are even giving several away to 10 lucky Mum Central readers (keep scrolling to enter).Â
Grobag a bedtime game changerÂ
Tommee Tippee Grobags come in four different TOG ratings – 0.2, 1.0, 2.5 and 3.5. The 2.5 TOG and 3.5 sleepbags contain 100% recycled padding which has obtained the OEKO-TEX® 100 class 1 certification and is guaranteed to be free from harmful chemicals, toxins and irritants.
And wait until you feel them! Sooo soft! They are made from super soft bamboo-rich fabric and their signature ALOEKIND™ lining, a unique cotton-blend infused with naturally soothing Aloe Vera. Perfect for delicate baby skin!
They also come in a variety of beautiful designs and feature a snug fit up top with plenty of wriggle room in the legs and hips, suitable for babies 6 months all the way to two years.
Acknowledged by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute as a ‘healthy hip product’, the Grobags allow babies to adopt a natural ‘frog-legged’ position with sleeping which is important for correct hip development.
Should your little one need changing during the night, there’s an easy two-way zip access to help you deal with those night-time nappy changes without disturbing baby or anyone else who is trying to get some much-needed rest.
Spring into summer with Snuggle!
Another cute option for your little summer baby is the Tommee Tippee Snuggle, ideal for little babies who love to be swaddled. These gorgeous sleep bags combine the comfort of swaddling with the ease of a baby sleep bag, suitable for newborns to nine months.
The difference between the Tommee Tippee Grobag Snuggle and the Original Grobag are the buttons on the sides that allow for swaddling. You can choose to swaddle bub with arms in or arms out as they grow by using the poppers on the sleeves.
Made with comfort in mind
And, just like the Tommee Tippee Grobag, the Snuggle is made from luxurious bamboo fabrics and the designs are heavenly too – so much cuteness! Snuggle sleep bags are available in both 1.0 TOG for spring/summer as well as 2.5 TOG and 3.5 TOG for winter babies.
