Because Melbourne isn’t doing it tough enough already, there is now a water warning notice for more than 250,000 households across 80 Melbourne suburbs. Issued by Yarra Valley Water, caused by overnight storms forcing undisinfected water from Silvan Dam entering the water supply system. This in turn poses a strong health warning to those affected.
Melbourne water warning
There are 88 suburbs impacted by the Melbourne water warning (listed below). If you are in any of these suburbs, you’re advised not to drink tap water or use it for food preparation unless it is boiled first.
You can still use the water for showering, bathing (maybe hold off bathing little ones that have a habit of drinking the bathwater), flushing toilets, washing dishes, hand washing, and garden watering.
What could happen
The contaminated water may cause gastro-like symptoms if consumed. Which, isn’t pleasant in the best of times, especially when stuck in a house on Stage 4 restrictions! #NoThankYou
