This December the Melbourne Town Hall will come alive with EPICURE’S delicious and delightful, fourth annual Gingerbread Village from Monday December 1 to Wednesday December 24.
Imagine a whole village made entirely of gingerbread… without the wicked witch. What a fun and fabulous outing to take the kids on this Christmas holidays! The 2014 Gingerbread Village will have some very recognisable landmarks that will impress even the youngest critics. There’s the Melbourne Town Hall, Melbourne Cricket Ground, iconic and much-loved Luna Park, a zoo and, new to the installation, the Flemington Racecourse. And of course, they’re all connected by the essential gingerbread village Christmas train!
Award-winning pastry Chef Deniz Karaca says it’s an initiative his 12-strong team looks forward to every year. “This year we will be baking over 500 kilograms of gingerbread, using 300 kilograms of royal icing and 120 kilograms of marzipan. Our team painstakingly makes around 800 miniature Christmas trees to create the festive backdrop. Our gingerbread making sessions are a lot of work but loads of fun. It’s a mammoth effort, taking over 2,000 hours,” says Deniz.
Is all that thinking about delicious, sweet ginger teasing your tastebuds? Though the village itself is not available to taste, EPICURE’s pastry chefs will be creating delicious gingerbread treats that can be purchased on site, including much-loved gingerbread men, pretty hearts and even ice-cream! Perfect to enjoy on the day or take them home for a delicious Christmas gift.
