MIL Christmas Card Stunt Leaves Everyone Baffled

Crazy MIL stories are nothing new. We’ve heard heaps of them and shared several in the past (check out our wildest MIL reader confessions). But this MIL Christmas card story was too good not to share, especially as we’re in the giving season. Yep, ’tis the season to give but this mother-in-law is clearly not having a bar of it.

Instead of just sending her son and his wife a Christmas card wishing them a Merry Christmas, she also felt the need to send them an itemised list of things she had bought or paid for during the past year.

MIL Christmas Card: Inside she wrote:

“Received a big blanket, $112.40 Xfinity bill paid! $584.89 on electric bill! $697.29 + gift. Merry Christmas.”

Nothing says Happy Holidays quite like a passive-aggressive message inside a Christmas card.

The daughter-in-law shared the message on her social media, explaining that her “toxic” mother-in-law pulls this type of stuff often. The daughter-in-law explained that her mother-in-law did help them throughout the year with bills after the daughter-in-law lost her job. However, it was “just like her” to remind them that she stepped up to help.

“So that was really amazing but she chooses to send a card, basically reminding, ‘Hey you don’t get a gift because I’ve done all these other things.’ When she literally could just, I don’t know, not give us one or just wish us a Merry Christmas.”

The daughter-in-law also stressed that she didn’t expect a gift but certainly didn’t expect an itemised list as to why she would not be getting one.

That’s not a Christmas Card, that’s an invoice

The mother also sent another Christmas card and gift to her other son. His “gift” was that she paid for his hospital bill earlier in the year.

Of course, this is only one side of the story. Perhaps the MIL was sick of her grown-up kids demanding and expecting her to pay their bills so decided to do something about it. It could be that the grown-up children have been using her as an ATM for too long and she was sick of it.

Whatever the reason, the daughter-in-law confirmed that they would not be asking their MIL for any more financial help. The video has also since been deleted. So I suppose it’s a happy ending for the MIL who gets to keep her cash and Christmas gift stash.

Breastfeeding Nana – Take a look at this dilemma that involves a new mum, a hungry newborn and a MIL who decided to breastfeed her grandchild despite the mother telling her NO.

Invoicing Nana – This one doesn’t involve a mother-in-law but a grandmother who took her granddaughter to her house for a few nights. The mother of the child then received a $475.50 bill (yes, 50 cents was included on the invoice) which included an itemised list of things such as petrol to and from the airport, admission to a museum and transportation into the city. The mum also explained that the unexpected bill arrived soon after Grandma stayed with the family for four months and didn’t pay for a thing.

Naughty Nana – This one isn’t really a crazy MIL story but it’s still pretty funny and involves a Grandma who just wanted to buy her granddaughter a cute book about animals. When the mother started reading it to her daughter, she was HORRIFIED. Just wait til you see why…. Nana Buys Inappropriate Picture Book for Six-Year-Old Grandchild

Born and raised in Canada, Jenna now lives in Far North Queensland with her tribe. When the mum-of-three is not writing, you can find her floating in the pool, watching princess movies, frolicking on the beach, bouncing her baby to sleep or nagging her older kids to put on their pants.
