13 Tips For Being a Photogenic Superstar

[mc_block_title custom_title=”TIP 1: Elongate your body”]

Sure, you might not have the height of a supermodel, but we’re going to fake it until we make it. Pushing a bare leg forward gives the ILLUSION of leg length. Create even more length by outstretching an arm and holding an item (such as a cup) to shift the eye focus a little. Look at you, legs eleven!

It’s easy to fall into the trap of just standing in front of a landmark (or similar) and not having a particularly interesting photo to say I’VE BEEN HERE! You’re already one step ahead of the game by being IN the photo, but change up your pose by sitting closer to the camera, positioning the subject in the background and asking the photographer to take the snap from a lower angle. So cool!

[mc_block_title custom_title=”TIP 3: Make your arms appear smaller”]

SO many of us are self-conscious of our arms. And let me tell you, the “teapot handle” arm position does have merit. It pushes the flesh of your arm out from being pressed flat against your body, making it instantly appear more flattering. Whether you push your arm out just slightly or go full Tetley is up to you – you do you, boo!

Men can also be really self-conscious in front of the camera, reassure them they’ll look a million bucks with this simple pose. Instead of facing the camera directly, turn ever so slightly and hold your arms at right angles, touching fingertips in front of the belly. This stance really opens up the chest, broadens shoulders and shapes the torso. Perfect!

[mc_block_title custom_title=”TIP 5: Break the line!”]

Break the straight blocky body line of a standing pose by pushing a foot forward and stretching out an arm. Too easy!

[mc_block_title custom_title=”TIP 6: Avoid being a blocky square in full-body photos”]

Step forward with one leg, weight on the back leg, turn or twist your body to the side and add a teapot arm. Practice it in front of a mirror and see the difference for yourself!

[mc_block_title custom_title=”TIP 7: Arms, how to make them smaller!”]

Again, it’s all about the way you hold them! Hold your arm ever so slightly away from your body and presto, less pressure and instantly smaller!

[mc_block_title custom_title=”TIP 8: Swimsuit photos”]

You’re laying by the pool or beach and someone whips out a camera to capture your blissful relaxed self which FREAKS YOU RIGHT OUT? Grab a shirt, remember the #1 tip of elongating the body by stretching out a leg and arm to create a triangle and hold a prop (a cup, a drink, a book or hat). Voila, vacay mode!

[mc_block_title custom_title=”TIP 9: Standing couples photo done right”]

Couples photos can be cringe-worthy. Standing side-by-side isn’t very personal and standing in front of your partner seems weird also. The answer: Channel your full Bold and The Beautiful pose. Turn towards each other and create a triangle between your shoulders (closest to the camera) by raising a hand to rest lightly on his chest. HOT!

[mc_block_title custom_title=”TIP 10: Nailing a sitting couples photo”]

The alternative to a standing pose is a sitting pose for couples – and this one is awesome! Have your partner sit at an angle on a chair, legs splayed. You sit on the floor and lean in, supporting your arm on his leg and knee. It’s perfect for varying levels and looking relaxed.

The potato – it’s a THING – but what is this sorcery?!  Again, it’s all about the angles and elongating your body. Legs out and turn, it’s that easy!

[mc_block_title custom_title=”TIP 12: Look great in group photos”]

When it comes to a group photo, don’t stop at a full teapot arm. You want to do a mild teapot arm, twist your torso back slightly and position a leg/knee forward. BAM, done!

[mc_block_title custom_title=”TIP 13: Belly hangups be gone”]

It’s super easy to be hung up about your belly when sitting for your photograph. WE ALL HAVE A BELLY. However, for a flattering photo, instead of sitting towards the camera lens, turn a ¾ turn, sit up straight with your knees together. Elongate your body with a leg forward and cross your hands in front. It’s pretty much a princess sit – beautiful!
