Netflix and Chill: 31 Shows to Binge-Watch in 2021

If you find yourself FINALLY clutching the TV remote and no one sitting alongside you to protest your viewing choices – it’s time to pop the popcorn and settle in for some serious couch time. Here’s the ONLY list you need – it’s what people have been bingeing over the summer and you’re GOING TO WANT TO TAKE NOTES.

We asked what to watch and you answered. It appears our Mum Central community is a varied lot but if there’s one thing I know for sure – we all enjoy some eye candy, a little bit of romance, a riveting storyline and a laugh.

Here’s a timely reminder of how far we’ve come in Netflix the past year. This time last year we were very much all about Tiger King and Carole Baskin. This year, not so much…

12 months of Netflix: Tiger King…. gosh, what a time to be alive that was. Hellllllo Bridgerton’s Duke!

1. Bridgerton

Popular Netflix

Netflix says: The eight close-knit siblings of the Bridgerton family look for love and happiness in London high society. Inspired by Julia Quinn’s bestselling novels.

Notable mentions: GUYS, C’MON. You’ll tune in expecting The Crown type drama but get SO MUCH MORE. Smashing the Netflix stats, Bridgerton is set in the early 1800s, is quietly funny, quite dramatic and reasonably raunchy. I’m just saying, don’t watch it with the kids around. #winkwink

2. Schitt’s Creek

popular Netflix

Netflix says: “Suddenly broke, the formerly filthy-rich Rose family is reduced to living in a ramshackle motel in a town they once bought as a joke: Schitt’s Creek.”

Notable mentions: Popular as ever, the Schitt’s Creek series has been around since 2015 – it’s not new, but damn it’s so good, you’ll want to watch all six of the seasons again. You can’t help but fall in love with this family, the small-town characters and each and every one of Moira’s outrageous wigs. Ewwwww, David.

3. Virgin River

Popular Netflix

Netflix says: “Searching for a fresh start, a nurse practitioner moves from LA to a remote northern California town and is surprised by what – and who – she finds.”

Notable mentions: This is small-town drama, so if you come from a small town, you’ll likely resonate. An easy watch to just snuggle in and enjoy over a weekend. Maybe have the tissues ready, just in case – there’s sure to be some hits to the feelings.

4. Superstore

popular Netflix

Netflix says: “At a big-box megastore in St. Louis, a group of employees with larger-than-life personalities put up with customers, day-to-day duties and each other.”

Notable mentions: Highly recommended by many, Superstore is definitely next on my watch list. I’m hoping it’s similar to The Office and insight into working in not-so-shiny or glamourous retail. Bring on the awkward LOLs!

5. You

Popular Netflix

Netflix says: “A dangerously charming, intensely obsessive young man goes to extreme measures to insert himself into the lives of those he is transfixed by.”

Notable mentions: Season three has reportedly been confirmed for this year and so you’re not TOO far gone to start binging the first two seasons in preparation if you’re yet to delve into this thrilling sitting on the edge of your seat series.
