Bluey or KPop Demon Hunters? The Spot It! Showdown Your Kids Have Been Waiting For

Every family game night starts the same way. Everyone’s lovely. Everyone’s polite. Then someone slaps a card down, yells “I SAW IT FIRST!” loud enough to wake the dog, and the whole thing turns into a courtroom drama.

That’s the Spot It! game in a nutshell. And now Bluey and KPop Demon Hunters have their own editions; you can expect a lot more “just one more round” at bedtime.

How Do You Play the Spot It! Game?

It looks like a simple card game. It stops being simple the second there’s a crowd at the table.

Here’s the trick. Any two Spot It! cards share exactly one matching symbol. Just one. Your job is to find it before anyone else does.

Sounds easy. Now try it while your kids shout wrong answers, someone’s crying with laughter and your partner swears blind they saw it first. (They didn’t.)

Rounds take just minutes, so it works for the ten-minute gap before dinner as well as a proper Friday night games session. It’s quick to learn, which matters when you’re teaching a five-year-old and a grandparent at the same time. And it’s sneakily good for kids, building observation, speed and matching skills while they think they’re just trying to beat you.

The cards live in a compact collectible tin that fits in a handbag, a glovebox or a carry-on. Think of every cafe wait where that would’ve saved you.

Then there’s the range. Spot It! comes in dozens of themes and franchises, including Bluey, KPop Demon Hunters and One Piece, so you can build a collection around whatever your kids are obsessed with this month. (It will change. It always does.)

Five Ways to Play Spot It!

One tin, five different games. Each one changes how you win, which comes in handy when someone’s sulking about losing the last one.

1. THE TOWER: Everyone gets one face-down card and the rest go face-up in a pile in the middle. Flip your cards over together, then race to spot the match between your card and the centre card. Call it out, grab the centre card and stack it on yours. Biggest pile when the draw pile runs out wins.

2. THE WELL: Think of it as The Tower in reverse. One card goes face-up in the middle and the rest of the deck is dealt out evenly. On “go”, everyone flips their whole stack face-up and races to match their top card to the centre card, calling it out and slapping it down. First to empty their deck wins.

It’s loud. Very loud.

3. HOT POTATO:  Everyone holds one card face-up in their palm. Spot a match between your card and someone else’s, call it out and dump your cards on them. They now only look at their new top card. Keep going until one poor soul is holding the lot. They lose the round and cop a penalty card. After a set number of rounds, the player with the fewest cards wins.

4. THE POISONED GIFT:  This is the cheeky one. Instead of matching your own card, you hunt for a match between the centre card and someone else’s card, then drop the centre card on top of theirs. The aim is to get rid of cards, so the fewest cards at the end wins.

Expect accusations. Possibly grudges.

5. TRIPLET:  Lay out nine cards in a 3×3 grid with the rest of the deck nearby. Everyone hunts at the same time for three cards sharing the same symbol. Spot a trio, call it out, collect it and fill the gaps from the deck. Most cards when the deck runs out wins.

I reckon this is the pick for older kids who’ve got a bit too good at the others.

Spot It! KPop Demon Hunters: For the Kids Who Know Every Word to ‘Golden’

If ‘Golden’ has been on repeat in your car since mid-2025, you already know where this is going.

Spot It! KPop Demon Hunters brings the breakout Netflix film to the kitchen table, with HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys on the cards. Fans will love recognising Rumi, Mira and Zoey mid-round, and they’ll probably argue about the Saja Boys while they’re at it.

You don’t need to know a single lyric to play. Your kids will happily fill you in anyway. At length.

It’s the same fast, competitive, family-friendly gameplay with a big dose of pop-star energy. Perfect for playdates and holidays, or the five-minute break that somehow becomes three rematches.

Spot It! Bluey: Whackadoo, It’s Game Night

Bluey has taught a whole generation of Aussie kids how to play. It was only a matter of time before the Heelers ended up in a game tin.

Spot It! Bluey puts Bluey, Bingo and the whole Heeler family into the classic Spot It! format, Bandit and Chilli included. Kids race to find familiar faces and symbols against siblings, parents and grandparents, and the little ones are often quicker than you’d think.

Because it’s so easy to pick up, it suits families with kids of different ages. Your four-year-old and your ten-year-old can genuinely play together, which is close to a miracle in some houses.

It’s tiny too, so Bluey and Bingo can tag along to Nan’s or on the plane, or keep everyone sane on the five-hour drive to the coast. And with Christmas coming, that tin is very stocking-sized. Just saying.

Which Spot It! Game Will Your Family Love Most?

Once you know how Spot It! works, every edition plays the same way. So picking one really comes down to who lives in your house.

Bluey-mad little one? The Bluey tin’s a no-brainer.

KPop Demon Hunters fan who sings the soundtrack in the shower? Go KPop, obviously.

Because they’re collectible, plenty of families end up with two or three tins. Just don’t mix the decks. It breaks the one-symbol maths, and someone will cry.

Start with whichever character gets the loudest squeal in your house, either Bluey or KPop Demon Hunters, then clear the dining table. Someone’s about to yell “I FOUND IT!” and it probably won’t be you.
