No, this is not a drill! If you love a bargain and prefer to snap them up online, then you’ll have woken up a very happy Aussie indeed. Why? Because after some last minute hiccups and false starts, Amazon Australia has lift-off.

And it all happened while we were sleeping, making the good folk at Amazon just like Santa’s elves, when you think about it.

Ready, set. shop!

So, what’s in store? How about toys – lots and lots of toys, just in time for Christmas. There’s also fashion, sporting goods, homewares and kitchen appliance, plus – and this is the one that will have your teens excited – electronics among the 20-plus categories.

TO get you in the moood, Amazon’s launch deals include up to 30 per cent off toys including Barbie, Batman and Disney Cars, up to 20 per cent off Sunbeam kitchen appliances and a month’s supply of Huggies nappies for $65.

And thousands of smaller retailers have signed up to sell their own goods through Amazon Marketplace.

Amazon Australia country manager Rocco Braeuniger says the shopping behemoth wants to take customer service to the next level.

“By concentrating on providing a great shopping experience and by constantly innovating on behalf of customers, we hope to earn the trust and the custom of Australian shoppers in the years to come,” he says.

Free shipping

Amazon will offer free shipping on all purchases over $49 and you can expect to have your packages on your doorstep within three to seven business days in most major cities and regional areas..

Customers in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra can pay $9.99 for one-day priority delivery. Amazon Australia shoppers in Perth and other cities and regional areas of Victoria, NSW and SA can pay $11.99 to get their items two business days.

Next year Amazon says it will introduce Amazon Prime in Australia, which allows shoppers to sign up for faster shipping as well as subscribe to streaming video content on Amazon Prime, gaming on Twitch and Kindle.
