If you’re looking for the best teething products in Australia, then chances are, you’ve got a baby that is showing signs of teething. Extra dribble, extra swollen gums, extra grizzle, extra cuddles and not a lot of sleep for either of you!
Yep, Mumma, we know the feeling. We’ve been there, done it and tried ALL the teething toys along the way. We also gathered our best teething products to tackle this tricky time, including gels, toys, bibs, and more.
Every child is different when it comes to what works for them and their teething needs but we put these teething products through the paces and are happy to give them all our big Mum Central thumbs up!
But before we get to the best teething products, let’s first wrap our heads around the joy that is teething.
Teething 101
Fun fact: Babies have 20 toothy pegs to sprout in the first three years of life. So that means they’ll be going through teething troubles 20 times!
When can you expect the ‘fun’ to begin? In general, teething starts around the 4-8 month marker with the final teeth sprouting up around 23-33 months.
What are the signs of teething?
Before you see a toothy peg, you may notice your tot is:
- Extra irritable and restless. During the day and during the night too.
- Pulling at their ears and a slightly raised temperature. However, this could be a sign of something else like an infection.
- Rubbing their chin and cheeks. Red cheeks can also be a sign of teething.
- Chomping down on anything. Your finger, a toy, their fists. All tell-tale signs that their mouth is not happy!
- Extra dribbles. The extra spit may cause a bit of a rash of their face too.
- Loss of appetite.
- Coughing and gagging. This is due to the excess saliva pooling in the baby’s mouth.
Here’s the thing about teething – it can take a long time for a tooth to make it through the gums so your little one could be showing all the signs of teething for weeks, even months before that toothy peg makes its appearance.
That’s why having a range of teething products on hand, ready to go, can help them with any pain that comes with the lengthy teething process.
