Emma Wiggle has split with her wiggly husband, Lachy Gillespie.
The pair announced they were calling quits on their two-year marriage on social media yesterday.
The news has shocked fans and comes only months after Emma revealed she was being treated forendometriosis so she could start a family.
Yellow Wiggle Emma and purple Wiggle Lachy – aka Emma Watkins and Lachy Gillespie – revealed the sad news in a joint statement on Instagram.
Wiggly romance over
“We have, and continue to share, the most beautiful life together, but we wanted to let you know that privately for the last six months we have been navigating through a trial separation, and we have made the decision to separate as a couple,” they wrote.
“Throughout that period, we have performed hundreds of shows together and that is always a continued source of joy for us both. We have embraced this as a very positive change in our relationship. Our incredible friendship has been strengthened throughout this time and what we have discovered is that, more than ever, first and foremost we love and adore performing as Emma and Lachy in The Wiggles and having the privilege of celebrating this happiness with extraordinary families around the world.
We have chosen a different path to travel in our personal lives, but please know that we are stronger than ever and we can’t wait to see you at a show soon.”
“We will not be commenting beyond this, and we thank you in advance for respecting our privacy. Lots of love, Emma and Lachy xx”
“We are all so saddened to hear this, but understand your decisions as a couple and respect you for being transparent with your fans and for continuing to love and respect one another. Best wishes to you both,” one fan wrote.
And this from another: “We are both shocked!! I mean if these two can’t make it do any of us have a chance!?!?!?”
Marriage bust-up follows health scare for Emma
Emma, 28, and Lachy, 32, married in a fairytale ceremony in Bowral, NSW, two years ago.
In April 2018, she revealed that she need to have an operation because endometriosis had made it impossible to start a family.
“I think I’ve almost left it too long and I realised that lots of people don’t even think about going to see somebody earlier. Now I need to take the rest and be serious about looking at my health as a priority,” she said at the time.
She did not join The Wiggles on stage for their Australian tour in April and May. Both Lachy and Emma will stay with The Wiggles.
