The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s Product Safety has released an official recall after several customers took to social media to share their concerns about various Kmart Christmas bedding.
One mother shared on Facebook that her child was sick in hospital after sleeping on the sheets while others have mentioned breathing issues and skin irritations due to the strong chemical smell.
Strong Chemical SmellÂ
Dozens of parents shared their concerns about the bedding before Kmart issued a voluntary recall last week.
Consumers have stated that the bedding has caused skin irritations and breathing concerns as a result of exposure to them. The bedding and pillows were made in Pakistan and are part of the popular Anko range.Â
As one mum shared on Facebook,Â
********* Warning *********
Mr and Mrs Claus bed sheets and elves sheets people in Australia have been very sick one ended up in hospital and 2 ladies had to throw out their washing machines. Please don’t buy will be recalled soon.”
Kmart Christmas Bedding Recall
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s Product Safety issued a recall notice on Tuesday for the Christmas-themed Anko bedding sold exclusively at Kmart stores nationwide.
The items were available for sale in-store and online between September 22 and December 4 this year and plenty of Christmas-loving families flocked to their nearest Kmart to pick up the festive bedsets.Â
The Kmart Christmas Bedding in the Now-Official Recall Includes:Â
- Mr & Mrs Claus queen bed quilt cover set
- Christmas Elf reversible single bed quilt cover set
- Merry Christmas pillowcase set
- Santa & Elves pillowcase set
- Christmas Quilt single bed quilt cover set
The ACCC states.
“The product emits a strong chemical odour that may cause reactions to consumers, as it did not cure properly during the manufacturing process.
[There is a] risk of serious injury and/or illness if the products come into contact with skin or if the odour is inhaled.”
If you have any of these products, Kmart has requested you stop using the product immediately and return the quilt cover or pillowcases to your nearest Kmart store for a refund. For those looking for alternative Christmas bedding sets, both Aldi and Spotlight have been praised for having a great range.Â
