Tis the season to start baking up a storm and indulging in all sorts of yummy Christmas treats! Let’s start the fun with a super easy and gooey choice – these no-bake marshmallow Christmas wreaths.
Take your breakfast cereal, a bag of marshmallows and a squirt of green food dye and what do you have? A plate of yummy, no-bake Christmas wreaths!
Note: This recipe first appeared on Mum’s Pantry and is made with love by their Head of Food, Lexi Klaebe.
No Bake Marshmallow Christmas Wreaths
Ingredients
- Butter – 115g
- Marshmallows – 250g
- Cornflakes – 4 cups
- Green Food Colouring
- Red Mini M&Ms
Instructions
1. Line a baking tray with baking paper. Set aside.
2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows (chop in half if big) and stir until the mixture is smooth. Add a squirt of green food colouring and stir to combine.
3. Tip the cornflakes into the green marshmallow mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until the cereal is completely covered.
4. Spoon the mixture onto the baking tray in a wreath shape. While the mixture is still sticky, add a few red Mini M&Ms to each wreath to create decorative berries.
5. Let set (or fasten up the process with a quick fridge sit) and let the kids nibble away!
TIP: If you’re after a more natural approach to green food colouring, one thing we’ve found works is Spiralina or antioxidant-rich matcha green tea powder which is a bright, vibrant shade of green.
More Great Christmas Baking Recipes
We at Mum Central LOVE Christmas, especially setting aside time to get into the kitchen with our kids and let them help us with baking. I find that a lot of time when you ask your kids to help you with meal prep or cooking, it can get a bit stressful. The time constraints make it hard to relax and enjoy it and we won’t even discuss the mess that often comes with letting the little ones help out in the kitchen.
What I love about Christmas baking is that it’s usually done during holidays or on the weekend when there isn’t a time limit. Kids can take their time and you can let them mix, decorate and spoon the batter without feeling like you’re being rushed.
A few tips we have when baking with kids is:
- Have all the ingredients ready and in various cups and bowls so that they can easily add the ingredients.
- Be sure to have TWO of everything if you’re cooking with two kids to avoid fights.
- Place a baking tray down under the dish to keep spills contained.
