I have always been a bit curvy. Even at my slimmest I had soft thighs, a small pot belly and an ample arse. It’s the European in me and I’ve never shied away from it.
However, since I had my babies and hit the middle-aged mark, my curves are curvier and, for lack of a better word, lumpier. My body shows all signs of womanhood, age, pregnancies, wine and cheese.
I’m not complaining. They are all good things to be reminded of, in my opinion, but there are times when I would rather keep those lumps and bumps a secret from the rest of the world. Do you get what I’m saying?
So over the years I have accumulated quite the collection of shapewear. Bikeshorts and bodysuits and corsets that will take your breath away [and by take your breath away, I mean you will struggle to breathe in them] all have their special drawer in my wardrobe. Yeah, I have a drawer of them because it’s hard to find a really good shapewear piece [that costs less than the price of the outfit you’re wanting to wear it with].
But there’s a new kid on the block and I think they may just be our new best friend.
Meet LaSculpté, a brand new line of women’s clothing with a focus on shapewear and active wear that combines shapewear and active wear all in one.
Their range of everyday shapewear will tighten and lift in all the right places so you can wear your favourite look even after a weekend of total indulgence.
CONFESSION: I don’t have a drawer of active wear. I’m not an active wear kind of girl anymore. There was a time that I used to own the gear for all the gym workouts I did but I haven’t had a gym membership since I became pregnant with my first child and I do all my extensive exercise [ahem] in trackies and sneakers.
So I was really surprised and impressed at how wonderful these Contrast Trim Shaping Crop Tight were to wear. These retail at $59.99 and I’m wearing the size medium.
The fabric feels gorgeous. It’s soft, sort of feels brushed, but the control factor is firm. I love how it fits around my tummy and the shape that it gives my thighs and bum. In fact, I loved it so much that I was encouraged to actually get active however, not really knowing what being active entailed, I looked to the LaSculpté model for inspiration.
Now to the Shapewear.
LaSculpté offer a great range of shapewear, ranging from size small to XL. Their quality range of control underwear, bodysuits, shorts, waist cinchers, firming tops and camisoles have been optimally designed for sinuous shaping, second-skin smoothing, can’t-miss sculpting.
I got the Low-cut Shaping Stripe Full Slip in nude, size medium, which retails for $49.99. It was just the right kind of tight. Enough to smooth everything over and pull everything in, without taking my breath away. As you can see, my tummy is still there but it just gives a far sleeker line.
The before shots you see below are the back and side views of the same dress I was wearing in the feature image at the top. As you can see, wearing this dress with my usual underwear is
hideous not the most flattering. The fabric is very ‘grabby’ and shows ALL my lumps, bumps and curves – and not in a good way. Popping the dress on over the LaSculpté shapewear piece made a DRAMATIC difference. Suddenly I was celebrating my shape instead of hiding it!
I also noticed that it even helped my posture by encouraging me to stand up straighter through the support of the garment along the length of my torso. I ended up sitting in the dress working for the next couple of hours because I felt so sexy [which is unusual to feel in my line of work] and found that though it did ride up a little bit [from the all the sitting/standing movement], it didn’t roll so I was doubly impressed.
Belinda shares the same dilemma. Too many curves and not enough shapewear, don’t you Bel?
You bet I’ve had my fair share of shapewear over the years. Let’s face it, I’m generally hovering between a size 16 and 18 since I had my kids and sometimes need that ‘something’ to pull you in and smooth your lines. Right? I’ve bought the bike shorts, tummy control pants, shaping pantyhose and bodysuits. They either roll down, pull you in then bulge you in out elsewhere or just don’t fit comfortably. Like Tania, I’ve got a drawer full too!
So when we were asked to review the new LaSculpté range, I have to say I was sceptical. Now from the start I’m happy to declare that I’m not one to wear tights, usually opting for tracksuit pants when exercising. They do however have their downside,
I chose to wear the Slimming Compression Crop Tights ($55.99) in XL, which are 3/4 length yoga pant, and have to say I was really apprehensive to put them on. Why? I don’t know to be honest – but I don’t know what I was worried about! They were really comfortable, firm and I could feel they really smoothed my lines yet didn’t make me feel like they were squeezing me together. I actually wore them the whole day (and for the record, I am NOT someone who walks around in activewear all day!!) I just didn’t want to take them off – they felt great! What I loved most is that you didn’t feel like they were pulling you in, yet when you went to take them off you realise just how much they did. Now that’s comfort!!
I also chose the Coral Tank with Inbuilt Shelf Bra ($45.99) in XL as I’m a big fan of tanks when working out. Have to say I LOVED the colour – more a neon than a coral, but that was actually a bonus! Loved the colour, was great against my skin and felt really uplifted and bold wearing it. It was really comfortable, with mesh panelling down the sides and the shelf bra was actually really comfortable and held my girls in well. It gave them a nice shape, the shelf bra didn’t dig in along the back and when I was running they kept me in place pretty well! That said however, I would prefer a different hemline. I felt that the rounded bottom wasn’t flattering for my body shape and would prefer a straight hemline on my tank.
Size-wise, it felt quite firm (which to be honest I’m not used to in a tank although it did flatten me out across the front which was a nice feeling. I wore the XL which really was probably at the top end of an 18 so if you are a 20+ you need to watch out for their size XXL which I believe is coming soon (and VERY welcome as I know how tough it is to find Plus-Size active wear!)
Overall I really loved the LaSculpté Activewear and the tights are now part of my everyday workout regime. I’m keen to try the Contrast Trim Shaping Crop Tights that Tania wore as I love how the legs are gathered at the bottom and just love wearing the tights. Super soft material all round – great comfort and fit. I think I’m a tights convert!
