After dating for over a year, Australian icon and conservationist Robert Irwin has split with girlfriend, Perth-born Rorie Buckey.

Robert and Rorie, the niece of late Aussie actor Heath Ledger, were first spotted together on a casual date in November 2022 and went ‘Instagram official’ in August last year.

The shocking announcement that Robert Irwin has split with girlfriend, Rorie came in a joint statement from the couple on Saturday morning on Instagram:

“We wanted to share that we have decided to go our separate ways but profoundly appreciate all of the time spent together and wish one another all the very best into the future.

We wish to express the gratitude and respect we have for one another as we continue our journeys on different paths.

We won’t be commenting further on this, and really appreciate your respect and privacy at this time.”

The sad news comes only a month after Robert announced he was hoping to take his whole family – including Rorie – to South Africa in March, where he will host I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Nineteen-year-old Rorie, currently studying a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy at Curtin University, has also been working with the Irwin family at Australia Zoo since late December 2023.

Rorie wrote about her work at Australia Zoo in a recent post:

“Working with the University of Queensland and Australia Zoo is profoundly rewarding and I am so grateful to be alongside such inspiring individuals. This data is helping to conserve a keystone species and the habitat that supports them!”

All evidence of the relationship deleted from social media

Since their public announcement, Robert and Rorie have deleted all photos they are seen in together from their social media accounts. Rorie has also removed ‘Wildlife Warrior’ from her Instagram bio and has made her account private.

It’s not yet known why the pair parted ways, but we wish them all the best. (We also think it won’t be long before khaki-clad Robert is coupled up again, given his, ahem, iconic Stellar photoshoot), don’t you?

The rise and rise of Robert Irwin

Known to many of us as the son of late Australian legend Steve Irwin, Robert Irwin has been on a trajectory to stardom since birth.

Featuring regularly in his dad’s documentaries and wildlife shows, Robert is as comfortable around crocodiles as he is around humans.

A talented wildlife photographer, keen traveller and enthusiastic conservationist, Robert has always thrown himself into everything he does, including hosting the next I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! season with TV queen Julia Morris, starting March 24th on Channel 10.

When not travelling the globe and documenting nature, Robert is happy spending time with his mum, Terri Irwin, his sister Bindi Irwin and the rest of his family at Australia Zoo, a 700-acre wildlife sanctuary located in Queensland, Australia.

There, you’ll find over 100 different animal species, from the famous ‘jumping’ crocs at the Crocoseum to cheetahs, dingoes, echidnas and more. The zoo also houses a wildlife hospital to treat sick and injured wild animals.

Keen to follow Robert’s wildlife adventures (and maybe slide into his DMs – to give emotional support, of course!)? Follow him on Instagram.
