The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have just confirmed they’re expecting and their two-year-old son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor is going to be a big brother!
A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan said:
“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”
A tribute to Princess Diana
Perhaps the most touching part is, Harry and Meghan chose to announce their baby news on Valentine’s Day. This was the same day that Princess Diana was pregnant with her second son Harry, 37 years ago.
Now living in Montecito California, the couple left the royal life in a quest for personal and financial freedom last year. Their announcement follows Meghan’s news in November last year that they had miscarried last summer.
Breaking the stigma
Meghan wrote in the New York Times about the moment she knew she was miscarrying when she “dropped to the floor” in pain while changing Archie’s nappy. She wrote: “I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”
Addressing the stigma surrounding miscarriage, Meghan continued:
“Losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few.”
The official photo, released by the couple, sees Harry sitting with Meghan under a tree, with Meghan laying back on his lap under. Harry is seen resting his hand on Meghan’s head as she lay back in his lap cradling her bump.
This new baby will be 8th in line to the throne. Harry retained his place in the line of succession despite him and Meghan stepping back as senior Royals in January last year, while dropping the style of HRH.
Misan Harriman, a friend of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (who also took the photo that accompanied their pregnancy announcement, tweeted: “Meg, I was there at your wedding to witness this love story begin, and my friend, I am honoured to capture it grow. Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on this joyous news!”
Harry and Meghan have been “over the moon” since welcoming baby Archie last year, and this new baby will only add tot heir happiness.
“It’s magic. It’s pretty amazing. I have the best two guys in the world, so I’m really happy,” Meghan said soon after Archie’s birth in 2019. “He’s just been a dream.”
Harry added, “It’s been the most amazing experience I could ever possibly imagine. [We look forward to spending] precious times with him as he slowly, slowly starts to grow up.”
We wish them all the best and can’t wait to join her on this exciting journey!
