Actress Hilary Duff has shared gorgeous images of her home birth earlier this year when she and her husband Matthew Koma welcomed daughter Mae into the world. We can’t believe how easy she makes it look! One thing we know for sure though is it was all family hands on deck.
Hilary shares her home birth story
Posting to her Instagram page, Hilary has shared these beautiful images of her home birth with her 17.6 million followers. They’re raw and beautiful and they’ll leave you wondering how the heck she looks so good.
Rest assured, even though the images don’t show it, we’re quietly confident that there were likely many moments of “don’t touch me”, “you did this to me”, “I want off this ride”, “don’t look at me like that” and “when will it be over?!”. Or so we can only assume because birth though beautiful, is TOUGH.
This isn’t Hilary’s first home birth, she birthed her second child, Banks, at home too. We love that co-star and Hilary’s BFF Molly Bernard flew into LA to be an extra set of hands for the birth. Now that’s a dedicated mate!
The right support system is everything…
Sharing her images, Hilary captioned the Instagram post saying:
“Feeling ready to share some photos of Mae Mae’s birth day!!! For me to feel safe during birth and get to where I need to go, it’s crucial to have the right support system. The perfect amount of space, counter-pressure, humour, stillness and people that support my power.”
“My hubby is the most calm anchor in the room when I feel like climbing the walls and my little Molly is an extraordinary doula who sat with me when I needed to be still and quiet. She quite enjoyed the fact that I was sitting on doggy puddle pads as my water had broken hours before 🤣.”
“My own mama was there to make all the snacks and watch with a big nervous smile as her baby brings her a new grandbaby earthside. The help that I have to support my other children while I am not able is maybe the most comforting thought of all. All hands on deck. Forever lol.”
“This is hard work…every way a woman brings a baby in is. From getting pregnant to c-sections, hospital or home births, the breastfeeding journey (oy vey that one gets me every time) and raising these little beings responsibly to be stand up, confidant, kind citizens of the world…”

And baby makes three!
Born 24th of March, 2021, baby Mae is the third child for mum Hilary Duff. She’s the adorable youngest sibling of big sister Banks Violet Blair (aged 2) and big brother Luca Cruz Comrie (aged 9).
Introducing a new baby to the family is always a lot, so we love that Hilary and Matthew had the kids meet their new sibling right there in the home birthing pool. Amazing!
