Kim Kardashian and controversy go hand in hand. She’s never been one to shy away from drama and her latest SKIMS shapewear is certainly turning a lot of heads. While many have been left confused by the look, others have praised the celebrity for her ‘groundbreaking’ bra.
As you can see, the bra comes with built-in nipples. Yep. Those aren’t Kim’s nipples, ladies. Those are part of the package.
Free the nipples! Fake nipples included.
The earth’s temperature is getting hotter and hotter. Sea levels are rising. The ice sheets are shrinking. I’m no scientist, but I believe everyone can use their skillset to do their part,” the reality star said in the “Ultimate Nipple Bra’s” promotional video.
“That’s why I’m introducing a brand-new bra with a built-in nipple – so no matter how hot it is, you’ll always look cold. Some days are hard, but these nipples are harder. And unlike the icebergs, these aren’t going anywhere.”
The push-up bra, which retails for $120, has raised a lot of eyebrows and many commented on how unnecessary and tasteless they are. Who are the built-in nipples for exactly? Is it just another attention-grabbing stunt to attract the male gaze?
Others assumed it was a joke, an early April Fools gag or perhaps a parody for SNL.
She’s lost her mind,” one wrote.
“Why would anyone need this?”
Nipple bra praised
However, breast cancer patients and survivors, including those who have undergone a mastectomy, were more than happy with the nipple bra.
I have stage 4 breast cancer, mastectomy last May. Reconstruction in January,” Philecia La’Bounty commented on a post from SKIMS. “The PTSD from having your body mutilated from cancer is traumatic and not a choice for many people. I can’t wait to buy one and have nipples again.”
Women’s health advocate Krystal Barter told The Sydney Morning Herald that the nipple bra has the potential to be useful.
She underwent a preventive mastectomy when she was 25, after discovering she had the cancer-linked BRCA1 gene.
A huge percentage of women make life-changing and saving decisions every day because they’re facing the threat of not only cancer, but a risk of cancer. It changes their body and how they feel about it, and it’s directly tied to our breasts and our nipples and our identity. If the bra helps people, I think that’s a really powerful thing.
Every day I miss my breasts and my nipples and everything that it looked like. [The bra] has the potential to be useful or powerful for some women who have found it to be a really difficult process to go through, which it is.”
Many other SKIM fans have also come to the party and praised Kim for her innovative nipple bra.
I don’t know if I hate it or love it. This is brilliantly weird but genius,” one said.
I saw Kim Kardashian wear a nipple bra so I bought a nipple bra,” another added.
Nipple bras and butt Pjs
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a celebrity launch a product that left us all a bit confused. Remember when Rihanna showcased her cute range of flannel PJs that were missing the back of them?
This is Rihanna we’re talking about and Rihanna doesn’t do anything half-assed.
Butt PJs for everyone!
Another interesting fashion trend we still can’t understand is the Christmas Ham lingerie look, launched by Bras and Things.
After all, nothing says Hollywood glamour like sexy lingerie that makes you look like a rolled roast, whacking a heart on your well-shaped fupa, thrusting your furry koala ears forward and cutting your bulging breasts into scalloped quarters.
This is a lingerie getup not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure.
But that’s not all! We’ve also got a vagina hammock bodysuit, a vagina scarf and a pair of mum jeans that just don’t make the cut.
