There is another heir to the Facebook throne. And she’s as sweet as can be!
Welcome to the world August Zuckerberg Chan.
Every parent has a special way to commemorate the birth of their child. For Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his beautiful wife, Priscilla Chan, their way is through words.
The proud new parents opted to pen their daughter, August (who, as you can guess, was born in August), a letter to welcome her to the world and to celebrate childhood in all its glory.
Mark shared his meaningful message on Facebook, and, as expected, their eloquent words resonate with parents around the world.
Stop and smell the roses
As Mark explains to his newborn daughter, “The world can be a serious place. That’s why it’s important to make time to go outside and play.”
From reading Dr. Seuss to running around in the backyard, Mark’s ode to childhood is one that often goes unheard (and unremembered) in everyday life. How often do we get so caught up preparing our children for the future that we forget to let them enjoy just being kids?
“Childhood is magical. You only get to be a child once, so don’t spend it worrying too much about the future. You’ve got us for that, and we’ll do everything we possibly can to make sure the world is a better place for you and all children in your generation.”
The proud papa concludes his message to August Zuckerberg Chan with a simple statement:
“August, we love you so much and we’re so excited to go on this adventure with you. We wish you a life of joy, love and the same hope you give us.”
This isn’t the first time Mark has wowed us with his words. When Max was born in November 2015, the proud new dad famously unveiled the Zuckerberg Chan Initiative, which focuses on “personalised learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities”.
He also pledged to give 99 per cent of their Facebook shares ($45 billion) to help the cause. We are sure the couple’s commitment to their cause will continue to grow, especially with the arrival of their new addition.
Congratulations to Mark and Priscilla! And welcome to the crazy world of parenting two under two!
